Midweek selections from out PlayUp form analyst, covering Sandown and Warwick Farm.
Sandown R1 #3 Forget You $3.70 at PlayUp – Coming off a terribly unlucky run in the G1 VRC Sires where he was forced to settle four pairs back on the fence with absolutely no room throughout the whole race. Badly held up in the straight until the last 200m where he got out and worked home very well. He was only 1L off the fastest closing split of the entire meeting. This is obviously the strongest form line, and back down to this midweek grade he should be winning.
Sandown R3 #4 Maid Of Iron $6.50 at PlayUp – Not suited by the slow tempo last start when resuming, and battled on from back in the field to finish 4th behind South Parade who led and kicked all the way. Second up here and will strip much fitter, and the step out to the mile should likewise suit this horse who is going to get back and run on again. The 2kg claim is a positive move, making her very well weighted against the competition here and from barrier 7 it will allow her to get into her pattern and fine the line. Should bounce back and win.
Sandown R5 #4 Charleise $4.60 at PlayUp – Resumed from a short freshen last start on the Lakeside circuit, and was caught back last and on the fence during the run which obviously is not the ideal place to be. In order to save ground the rider elected to stick to the inside and pray for runs, none of which eventuated at all until the 150m mark. At that stage it launched through a gap but just missed on the line, beaten by a swooper out wide with clear running. She’s run the 3rd fastest last 200m of the entire meeting in this run, and with the 3kg claim here sticking to 1400m she can bounce back with even luck.
Warwick Farm R7 #4 Belluci Babe $4.60 at PlayUp – There’s a good opinion of this horse, and for fair reason as well as it won twice and placed twice from four starts last prep in a very successful campaign. At the end of last prep it was just a beaten favourite over 1100m at Randwick, with the soft 7 track likely bringing it undone towards the end. Resumes here off two very smart trials, and should be fit and forward here for this assignment. A great fresh record, drawn perfectly in barrier three and is every chance to win here.
Warwick Farm R8 #6 The Grinder $10.00 at PlayUp – Keen on this ex-NZ horse having its first start under new stable Chris Waller here in Australia. It was a winner last December at Trentham over the 1400m there, and looked very stylish fighting out the finish to win. This looks to be the perfect race to make his Aus debut, over 1300m coming off two solid trials. The first one he finished by Farnan, and then looked really at home on some wet ground over 900m in the latest. He will be fit and forward, and the booking of James McDonald is a big push within itself. J Mac has jumped off a last start winner on debut from the same stable to ride this horse instead.
