Horse Racing May 8th

Another great Saturday of racing coming up here, with feature racing set to grace the Gold Coast, with the running of the G3 Gold Coast Guineas, and the G2 Hollindale Stakes. There is more G1 action at Morphettville as well, with the 2021 South Australian Derby set to unearth some possible Melbourne Cup chances. Racing also from Caulfield and Gosford, which is where our resident tipster has turned their focus on. See the selections below.

Caulfield R3 #2 Nerve Not Verve $7.50 at PlayUpSecond up into the prep here, coming off an absolutely luckless fresh run here over 1400m. They elected to restrain back from a slow beginning of a wide barrier, and she found a spot equal last on the fence in a horrible position. More to that, the lead tempo wasn’t strong, meaning it was basically an impossible winning position. As she started to improve in the straight, she was badly cluttered for room and went through the line under no riding. It was a seriously unlucky run, and with added fitness now she can definitely atone.

Caulfield R4 #10 Platini $7.00 at PlayUp  – Racing very well here for the Ellerton/Zahra camp, second-up from a freshen now, and was very good here at the track and trip last start. Gave them a big start settling back in last off a slow tempo and an on-pace bias day, he worked home very well through the line and was only beaten under 1L in the end. Second, up fitter, he is a three-time winner at the distance and is undefeated in his career second up as well. Can sit handier today from the barrier, and this is an easier assignment.

Caulfield R8 #10 Eco Warrior $14.00 at PlayUp  – Getting a very generous price here for a horse who is coming off an unbelievably maiden win. Absolutely nothing went right in the run at Pakenham over the mile last start, he lost his position badly on the turn, almost fell at the top of the straight, and was stuck behind a wall of horses until the final 100m. When he got out, he let down with a closing split that was 2L faster than any other horse in the race and won. He sticks to the mile here, drops 5kg off the last run, and can clearly handle the wet tracks as well. Look for him to push forward from barrier 8 and give a big sight.

Gosford R3 #11 Jahbath $4.60 at PlayUp  – Very keen on the chances of Jahbath here, who has drawn well in barrier two and is coming off a heavy track domination job at Tamworth the last start. He proved his wet credentials thereby putting the bm58 field away by close to 4L and had been running well prior to that in some ok races at competitive areas in Scone and Muswellbrook. Rock hard fit here, and finds another heavy track to his liking. Back to 1200m here should be no issue, he is fit and although the best form is over further, he is never far away at this trip.

Gosford R4 #4 Tectonicus $3.50 at PlayUp  – This horse looks a great bet here in the fourth, coming into this race at peak fitness fifth up off three minor placings and also a win two starts back. That win was over a mile in class one grade at Wyong, and he put the field away by over 5L. Most importantly, the track was rated a heavy 10 that day and he will find similar conditions now. A third at Canterbury behind Savoury’s last start reads as strong form for this event, Tim Clark hops aboard which is a positive booking, and he looks to map very well from barrier three.
