After the big wet caused the postponement of greyhound racing across New South Wales last weekend, tonight we will see the commencement of the three week Golden Easter Egg series at Wentworth Park. Fresh nominations were called for which has seen the addition of some quality interstaters included in the fields this week, further adding to the depth of each heat. From the eight heats to be contested tonight, the first four placegetters in each heat will progress to the semi finals to be run next Saturday. As we did on Thursday for the Launching Pad heats at Sandown Park, here is our thoughts on each of the eight heats to be run at Wentworth Park tonight. Good luck punters.
Golden Easter Egg Heat 1 – Race 2 No 2 Handsome Prince $2.10 at PlayUp – Winner of the Million Dollar Chase in October at this track and distance, the Prince is resuming from a 4 month break due to injury. Reports are he has been trialling well and the extra week will have him even fitter than he would have been last week. Should find the lead early in a race that lacks pace. Four Victorians in this heat, with Zipping Sultan the pick of them. 2-7-3-1.
Golden Easter Egg Heat 2 – Race 3 No 4 Catch The Thief $2.40 at PlayUp – Outstanding Victorian galloper who finished second in Shepparton Cup last week, in track record time. Expect Zula Warlord to lead, but CTT will be sitting right on him from this draw and should prove too strong in run home. 4-1-5-2.
Golden Easter Egg Heat 3 – Race 4 No 1 Ice Cream Story $4.60 at PlayUp – Wow, the freakish NSW galloper will start a very short price in this, and rightfully so. But we think that Ice Cream Story is drawn to lead and win. No luck recently from wide draws. Ava Wine may cause issues for the fav in run to first bend, trying to find the rails. 1-6-8-2.
Golden Easter Egg Heat 4 – Race 5 No 8 Incapacitated $3.30 at PlayUp – Very open heat. Run to first corner will be tight, with the red capable of pressuring the favourite Crazy Cool who is drawn in 3. This should allow Incapacitated to get the gun run up behind them and prove too strong at the finish. Look for Fabriola Zad to be steaming home, worth an each way ticket. 8-5-3-1.
Golden Easter Egg Heat 5 – Race 6 No 3 Mr Fix It $3.50 at PlayUp – Again we are tipping against the favourite, which is Tommy Shelby, who we feel is a risk from the wide draw. Mr Fix It is a lid pinger in his home state of Victoria, and if he can begin like that here tonight, he leads and wins. Tommy will be in the money no doubt, such a wonderful chaser. Look for the red to place at big odds. 2-7-1-8.
Golden Easter Egg Heat 6 – Race 7 No 8 Super Estrella $4.00 at PlayUp – Victorian Fernando Bluey will lead and will cut down to the rails. Track specialist Super Estella looks so well drawn out in the 8 and being able to follow him over. She then just needs to stay in touch with him down the back. Her local knowledge of the track will be the difference. This will be a great two dog war we feel. 8-6-7-1.
Golden Easter Egg Heat 7 – Race 8 No 4 Shima Shine $1.80 at PlayUp – We think the star Victoria Shima Shine can win this heat, but our confidence levels are not sky high. The major concern being the speed of the 8 dog that flies early and goes to the rails. The fav will need to come from behind and have some luck through first bend, but he is capable. Nangar Rust will be storming home and at the odds, he looks the better punting proposition on an each way basis. 4-5-1-8
Golden Easter Egg Heat 8 – Race 9 No 1 Flying Ricciardo $1.35 at PlayUp – Pre post favourite for the final, he simply leads and wins. What time he can run will be interesting, we think capable of going below 29.30 even. Avalanche is highly talented, the wide draw is not ideal, but he can place and hope to draw better next week. Jim Zarr Dashian looks a nice place bet at good odds. 1-8-3-6.
