Greyhounds Tips March 12th 2021

Three heats of the Richmond Cannonball will be of great interest to punters this evening when some of New South Wales fastest short course dogs will do battle over the 400 metre journey. The Jason Mackay speedster Straight Shift, who recently equalled the track record over the 330 metre trip, looks to have a mortgaged on the second heat and for mine looks the one to beat overall. Down in Victoria, at Cranbourne, they are holding their annual Tricodes meeting, where thoroughbred, harness and greyhound racing come together for the night, with each code holding 8 races.  Should make for a great night.

Remember on Sunday we have the Murray Bridge Cup being run at their twilight program and we think the outstanding SA performer, Coorong Lucy, can notch up win number 38 for trainer Cameron Butcher in this $10,000 to the winner event.  Following on from this on Monday night, heats of the Shepparton Cup will be run and then Wednesday heats of the Magic Maiden at Wentworth Park will take place. Great racing ahead.

Cranbourne Race 3 No 1 Beautiful Freak $1.55 at PlayUp – A real speed machine and drawn perfectly in this event over the short course. Generally, if you lead, you win, and he should have little problems in leading. He really does look the standout bet of on this program and our banker for all multi bets.

Geelong Race 1 No 6 King’s Riot $1.90 at PlayUp – Superbly bread youngster, being a half brother to the Melbourne Cup winner Whisky Riot and from the same kennel, who has been placed at all three starts and on each occasion, he has been a little unlucky. All three defeats were in good time. This race does not look at strong as his previous runs and it does look a very winnable race. Looks a special.

Richmond Race 2 No 8 Rapid Flyer $6.00 at PlayUp – Looked very new to the track when placed second in the fastest heat here last week at his 4th race start, but he did show that he has some serious ability. The wide draw tonight does look ideal for him and should provide him with a clear run. Both favourites are drawn inside, and we are unsure if they are totally suited there. At the odds, Rapid Flyer looks very nice value on an each way basis.

Richmond Race 8 No 2 Along The Line $5.00 at PlayUp – Had his first middle distance start last week here when close up 5th from the wide draw. Was still hitting the line at the finish despite having little luck during the race. Prior to that had run several very good placings at Wentworth Park in solid company. Drawn closer to the rails tonight, and inside the wide tracking Shanjo Prince, should allow up to be handy throughout before proving too strong in the closing stages.

Mandurah Race 5 No 1 Weblec Smoke $10.00 at PlayUp – Hopefully waiting for this late race will be worthwhile. Ex Victorian who is third up in WA, with his two runs to date read poor but were much better than they appear. Step up in distance tonight really assists. His record from inside boxes on bend starts in Victoria was quite strong. He does look to be outstanding value in this race, a win would not be a surprise to us.
