Ten straight at track and distance. Fantastic Radley managed to achieve this feat when winning at Murray Bridge last night. After winning two of his first twelve starts in New South Wales, and following a change in ownership and being transferred into the Ossie Chegia kennels, Fantastic Radley commenced his South Australian career on the 20th May this year with an impressive 38.65 victory at Murray Bridge over the 680 metre trip. Seven days later he fronted up again, finishing second to Bedrock Fred, beaten by one length. In ten subsequent starts since, all at Murray Bridge over the 680 metres, Fantastic Radley has been successful on all occasions, in times ranging from 38.35, a new track record, to 39.24 and on each occasion starting in the red. The closest any of his rivals have managed to get is one length, that being none other than Group One winner in Sir Truculent. It will be very interesting to see if Radley can take his form from the spacious Murray Bridge circuit to the much tighter Angle Park track when racing recommences at that venue following a six month closure to enable a track upgrade to occur.
One of Australia’s leading trainers, Tony Brett from Queensland, rarely is devoid of having a star in his kennels. Late last year he looked to have unearthed another group performer when Sentenced, a son of Jury who Tony had also trained, stormed on the Brisbane racing scene with a string of fast and strong wins at Albion Park. A winner of the Group 2 Queensland Derby and a finalist in the Group 1 Gold Bullion in just 14 career starts, Sentenced suffered a serious injury in April whilst trialling, placing his future racing career in doubt. Wind forward the clock just four months, and Tony has already found a suitable replacement in another son of Jury, named Indictment. In just six race starts, he has recorded three wins at Albion Park, running 29.80 or under on all three occasions. Only the very good dogs can do this. But it is not just his overall times that make people sit up and take notice, it is his run home times that has everyone talking, 12.50, 12.47, and 12.46. Track record holder Sennachie best run home was 12.45, so you can see Indictment is right up there with the best. For us, he has the potential to be a multiple Group winner before the year is out, and the Melbourne Cup is not beyond this fellow. Here are our five selections tonight for the punters.
Wagga Race 3 No 8 Soul Searcher $3.00 at PlayUp – Resuming from a two month break from racing, this dog has shown a liking for this track in the past and is very well suited in box eight. Has the speed to lead throughout in this race that does lack real depth.
Geelong Race 4 No 2 Weblec Jet $1.55 at PlayUp – Loves this track where he won the Group 2 Geelong Cup earlier this year in near track record time. Very well suited in the small field of five and he should lead and win. Clearly a standout for us tonight.
Richmond Race 6 No 8 Go Forward Barbs $5.00 at PlayUp – Very well named as that is exactly what she likes to do, go forward and lead. This race does lack early pace and from the wide draw she should find the lead with ease. The last fifty metres may be a challenge if the favourite has the sit on her, but we are banking on the fav getting buried back in the field, thus allowing our selections to snare the major prize.
Geelong Race 6 No 4 Eat My Dust $4.00 at PlayUp – This dog is a serious up and comer, and just continues to improve with racing. What we like about him, is his strength and the ability to come from behind and win. Yes he will need some luck in the early stages from this draw, but he does look real nice value in this. Continue to follow him.
Sale Race 8 No 8 Omega Dodge $1.80 at PlayUp – Excels at this track and distance, where he has won twelve races, with a further eleven minor placings, from his thirty five starts. And he loves box eight as he does tend to use plenty of the track. This field is not overly strong and he does one of the better bets of the night.
