An absolute super night of greyhound racing awaits punters tonight in both Australia and New Zealand with the running of the finals of the National Sprint and Distance events in each state in Australia and at Addington in New Zealand. The winners of the respective finals would normally, then head to one venue, this year this was scheduled to be The Meadows in Victoria, to compete in the National Final over both the distances. But Covid-19 so prevalent in our community, the likelihood of the greyhounds and their trainers being able to travel is almost zero, so the controlling bodies had no choice other than to cancel the proposed grand finales. A major disappointment for all, but at least we have all the individual state finals on the one evening to provide the enjoyment to the punters. Here are our selections for all the finals.
Addington (NZ) Distance Final Race 9 No 2 Student Loan $1.75 at PlayUp – Very strong stayer who has been outstanding in his last two wins. Short but should be winning.
Addington (NZ) Sprint Final Race 10 No 2 It’s A Blaze $1.55 at PlayUp – Can run record times when given a clear run. Found plenty of trouble in recent starts from wide draws. This suits better. Strong at the finish.
Dapto (NSW) Sprint Race 5 No 8 Zipping Kyrgios $3.30 at PlayUp – Resumed from a 16 break to win brilliantly at Richmond last Friday in very quick time. Showed rare early speed on that occasion and with an empty box to his left, he looks well placed here.
Dapto (NSW) Distance Race 6 No 4 Sound of Silence $2.20 at PlayUp – Very consistent chaser with an excellent winning strike rate. Comfortable winner track and distance in fast time just 4 runs back. A repeat of that effort has him winning again.
Albion Park (QLD) Sprint Race 5 No 3 Farmor Beach $3.70 at PlayUp –Just turned 3 but seems to have been around for ever. Winner of 19 races from his 43 starts, all in top company. He should be able to follow the 2 around the first corner and then prove too strong in the closing stages.
Albion Park (QLD) Distance Race 6 No 1 Maggie Moo Moo $1.30 at PlayUp – Best stayer in Queensland and drawn to perfection here. Cannot see her being beaten.
Launceston (TAS) Distance Race 5 No 6 Lakeview Lilly $9.00 at PlayUp – First attempt at the longer trip but has been crying out for it. Has been finding trouble in the shorter races but running on always. Big odds here, but we have no doubt she will give you a massive run for your money.
Launceston (TAS) Sprint Race 6 No 1 All About Monty $7.50 at PlayUp – Looks the leader from this draw, and should set up a handy lead. Fingers crossed he can hold on.
Meadows (VIC) Distance Race 7 No 1 Star Blazer $5.00 at PlayUp – Racing with a lot of consistency in recent times, and despite being a wide tracker, he should be able to lead from this draw. Nice each way odds.
Meadows (VIC) Sprint Race 8 No 5 Aston Rupee $2.15 at PlayUp – Looks a terrible draw on paper but we are expecting the 4 to give him plenty of room early. And that is all he needs. Seriously talented dog who will be too strong in the closing stages.
Murray Bridge (SA) Distance Race 4 No 2 Couture $31.00 at PlayUp – Tipping against the very short priced favourite here. Our selection loves an inside draw and is strong to the line. Big odds in the early markets and worth something on an each way basis.
Murray Bridge (SA) Sprint Race 6 No 7 Rushes $5.50 at PlayUp – Extremely open final, a race where playing the exotics around the 7 may provide a nice result. But he also worth an investment at his each way odds.
Cannington (WA) Distance Race 1 No 1 Casus Belli $4.80 at PlayUp – Hasn’t raced since June when unplaced in the Pink Diamond final at Bendigo Victoria. Does have a nice record at this track and draw is perfect. We think he is a special and our best of the night.
Cannington (WA) Sprint Race 2 No 1 West On Brae $2.00 at PlayUp – Very fast dog who has been leading similar fields from middle and wide box draws, so should lead easily from this box. Can run time on the lure, so hard to see him being beaten once in front. Yes.
