GREYHOUND racing is providing so much excitement and opportunities for punters at the moment, each week the quality of racing just seems to be getting stronger across all states.
It is not just the punters who are benefiting but also the participants. All states ha4ve announced an increase in prize money across the board, meaning all participants receive this benefit. Syndications are growing within the sport, a great way for new owners to enter into greyhound ownership. And we are seeing a number of high profile participants from the gallops industry now enjoying the spoils of being a part owner in a greyhound. Bjorn Baker, Jye McNeill, John Allen, Brendan Avdulla and Jarrod Fry are just some of the names that spring to mind who now find themselves well entrenched in greyhound ownership. The controlling bodies of the sport in each state would be able to provide further information to prospective participants.
Tonight we have a wonderful night of racing ahead of us, highlighted by 8 heats of the Ipswich Gold Cup, a Group 2 event. No doubt the main focus tonight will be on Extra Malt in heat 3, after her run of the year performance in winning at Albion Park last Thursday. Most people are still shaking their heads trying to establish how she managed to recover from her severe early check to still get up and win. She should little trouble in winning tonight. Next week’s final promises to be an outstanding event.
Elsewhere, a 600 metre mixed grade event at Dapto will hold much interest, a race in which we see Line Of Quality having his first start since finishing down the track in the Sydney Cup behind Miss Ezmae. Angle Park have the final of the Leigh Rogers Series for 6th graders, a race that will see the recent SA Derby winner, Mallee Magic, start favourite. Whilst down at Sandown, the winner of Monday’s Group 1 Hume Cup, Knicks Bale, has drawn the red in a Special Event over the 715 metre trip.
Now let us find some winners for the punters tonight.
Sandown Park Race 2 No 1 Harley Ryder $2.30 at PlayUp
Very lightly raced but all runs to date has shown he wants the rails so this draw is ideal. Has the speed to lead throughout and record career win number two. Highly promising youngster.
Sandown Park Race 6 No 3 Amnesty $2.80 at PlayUp
Following two very fast wins at this track over the 595 metres, had little luck last week, over the same trip, when finishing 4th. Drops back to the 515 metre trip tonight, but does have nice early speed. In a leading kennel and they must have confidence in her ability to drop her back in distance. She does look to be well graded.
Dapto Race 5 No 5 Prim And Proper $4.20 at PlayUp
Aside from the 2 dog Line Of Quality, this race lacks the depth of the fields she has been competing against of late. Recent Sydney Cup finalist. A winner of six races at this track and distance. Very reliable beginner who should find the lead with ease. Line Of Quality is her main danger but he does get back in his races and will be giving away a big start at half way.
Ipswich Race 5 No 4 Orchestrate $2.35 at PlayUp
Tony Brett trained sprinter who resumed here last week and showed he was near his top with an all the way win in 30.42. Should have gained nice benefit from that race so we can expect some improvement on that time. Very good dog at his peak. Looks to be drawn to lead here again which should result in another win.
Angle Park Race 8 No 3 Jack’s Well $1.70 at PlayUp
He will really appreciate the drop in class here in comparison to his recent starts, which included an unplaced run in the final of the Group 1 Adelaide Cup. Loves this track and distance where he is a winner of 16 races. He does look the standout bet for the night across Australia, despite the short odds, and we suggest that he be the banker in all your multi bets tonight.
