A huge few days of greyhound racing lies ahead of us, commencing tonight with a number of states conducting their heats of the National Sprint Championship, with this event culminating with the final at Wentworth Park on Saturday 27 August. The best greyhounds in each state will be out to qualify for this prestigious event, and if the fields tonight are any indication, we are in for some great racing.
We were in red hot form last Saturday night with our selections, let us see if we can continue this form tonight as we provide our selection for all the state heats in Queensland, Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania.
Albion Park Qld Sprint Heat 1 – Race 7 No 7 Shipwreck $1.80 at PlayUp – Absolute stunning performance at Wentworth Park last Saturday, running the 5th fastest time ever over the 520m course. Loves this track and loves a wide draw. Hard to see him being beaten, even if he cannot find this early lead as he is so strong.
Albion Park Qld Sprint Heat 2 – Race 8 No 8 Samona $11.00 at PlayUp – May not have the class of a couple of her opposition but she is very well drawn in this race. Has enough early speed to find the lead before the first bend, and she will not give that lead up easily. Great each way chance at the odds.
Sandown Park Vic Sprint Heat 1 Race 2 No 2 Dusty Bourbski $2.05 at PlayUp – Returned to his best form in recent weeks, and does race well when drawn in close to the rails. Very good beginner and likes this venue.
Sandown Park Vic Sprint Heat 2 Race 3 No 1 Zara’s Ivan $2.45 at PlayUp – Loves racing this venue where he recently recorded back to back wins in very fast times. Performs best when he finds lead early and should do that tonight from this rails draw. Should lead throughout.
Sandown Park Vic Sprint Heat 3 Race 4 No 8 Who Told Shorty $6.00 at PlayUp – Rise in class, but has been racing very well in recent times. Drawn perfectly in this field, as we believe there will be travel inside. Very strong dog who handles himself well on a field.
Sandown Park Vic Sprint Heat 4 Race 5 No 4 Zippy Tesla $6.00 at PlayUp – Returned to his best form here last week, when a stunning winner in very fast time. At his best he is one of the best sprinters in the country. Despite the tough draw we think he can position himself close enough to the lead to then prove to strong in the run home Very nice each way odds.
Angle Park SA Sprint Heat 1 Race 5 No 7 Victa Grosso $4.20 at PlayUp – Strong winner last start at Gawler, in a flying time. Loves racing at this venue where he has won 15 races to date. Nicely drawn out wide where he should get the perfect cart into the race. Yes.
Angle Park SA Sprint Heat 2 Race 6 No 8 Mallee Magico $2.20 at PlayUp – Regarded by most as the best sprinter in South Australia. Loves a wide draw so is perfectly boxed here. Should sit on the early leader and then prove too strong in the run home. We consider him to be the best bet of the night and therefore the banker in your multi bets.
Launceston TAS Sprint Heat 1 Race 7 No 4 Just Posh $1.80 at PlayUp – Resumed recently from a short break with a strong all the way win here at Launceston. Had no luck at most recent start at Hobart. Prefers this track. Has the speed to lead throughout.
Launceston TAS Sprint Heat 2 Race 8 No 1 Mcinerney $1.30 at PlayUp – Returns to Tasmania after recent stint of racing in Victoria where he has performed very well against the best sprinters in that state. Drawn to lead throughout. Will win but is very short odds.
