Considered by many as the best night of greyhound racing on the Australia greyhound calendar, the twelve event program scheduled for Sandown Park tonight may well be the best nights racing ever. Without doubt the highlight is the $435,000 to the winner 2020 Melbourne Cup but the support program is simply stunning.
The best stayers in the land will do battle in the Bold Trease final, some of the best youngsters clash in the final of the Vic Bred Series Maiden final, the country stars come to town for the Provincial Plate final, and we get to see the sensational youngster Mccooly’s Lad in the Super Vicgreys final. Then we see two Group 3’s with the running of the middle distance John Dillon Memorial over the 595 metres, plus the Cup Night Sprint over 515 metres. Simply outstanding is the only way to describe the program, so let us see if we can select a few winners for you punters.
Race 1 No 6 Arizona Eyes $4.00 at PlayUp – First reserve for the Cup final as the result of his outsmarting second in his heat to Tiggerlong Tonk, he will certainly find this field much easier than his heat. Despite being a noted slow beginner, he does manger times find his way through traffic well, and he should prove too strong here. Selections: 6-8-4-1.
Race 2 No 7 Shima Jake $4.60 at PlayUp – Sparkling heat winner in 29.43 upon debut before a fast finishing second in his semi-final, again in fast time. Wide draw suits. Selections: 7-1-5-6.
Race 3 No 5 Mccooly’s Lad $2.05 at PlayUp – A star of the future having recorded 29.14 and 29.09 in his last two wins at track and distance. Tough middle draw is of some concern but his class can get him through. Selections: 5-6-1-4.
Race 4 No 5 Mepunga Missile $7.00 at PlayUp – Went within a couple of lengths of the track record when qualifying for this event at Geelong last week from Box 1. Despite the awkward draw he can again get the cash. Selections: 5-1-3-4.
Bold Trease Final Race 5 No 6 Houdini Boy $1.90 at PlayUp – Super in his heat at just his second run after an injury enforced break, winning by a big margin after finding the lead early. May not settle so close in this but he is blessed with great field sense and is very strong. Selections: 6-4-8-7.
Melbourne Cup Final Race 6 No 2 Simon Told Helen $2.15 at PlayUp – Absolute star of the sport and a win will take him above the one million dollar mark in earnings. Knocked early in his heat but chased hard to still win with ease. Should lead from this draw and the times he runs will break open the race allowing him to race to victory. Selections: 2-7-8-3.
Race 7 No 1 Weblec Ace $3.20 at PlayUp – Continues to race in great form despite a run of tough box draws. Stepping back up to the 595 metres tonight, and despite not recording a win in three previous tries, his runs were enormous. Drawn to pounce on the wary lead. Selections: 1-2-3-7.
Race 8 No 5 Do It $7.50 at PlayUp – Very unlucky in his Melbourne Cup heat last week when beaten a nose after a slow start and finding trouble on the home turn. Draw not ideal as he loves the rails but he has the strength to run over the top of them in the latter stages. Selections: 5-1-8-2.
Race 9 No 2 Get It Gizmo $1.85 at PlayUp – Broke the 34 second barrier at The Meadows last start when winning over the 600 metres, just the 4th greyhound to achieve that feat. This box really suits and he again should find the early lead which will allow him to set up victory. Then all eyes will be on the clock. Selections: 2-7-1-3.
Race 10 No 2 Zipping Rambo $5.00 at PlayUp – Another who smashed the clock last week at The Meadows when he recorded a big victory and a repeat of that effort can see him win again. Selections: 2-7-1-3.
Race 11 No 6 Dark Jedi $5.00 at PlayUp – Been racing well in stringer company of late, without winning. Less wary pace in this race should allow him to be in the first two down the back where his strength will take him to victory. Selections: 6-1-8-2.
Race 12 No 5 Utah Ghost $3.80 at PlayUp – Hasn’t raced for 7 months and now in the powerful Tim Britton kennel. Recorded 3 smart victories from his 4 career starts and displayed quality status in those starts. This field is not strong and looks an ideal race for him despite the poor draw. Selections: 5-8-4-3.
