Punting, can be a frustrating experience at times. You put in hours and hours of your time doing the form, to sometimes have things go complete wrong that can leave you scratching your head. Yesterday was one of those days. For the first time in over two years, not one of our five selections were successful. Disappointing for us all. But upon reviewing the races, we remain happy with our process and hopefully it was just one of those nights, with things just not going to plan. We have no doubt we can turn things around tonight.
At Richmond last night, the Frank Hurst trained Good Odds Cash, who started a short priced favourite, turned in a stunning performance to win the Richmond Oaks (520m), leading from box rise to post to defeat Fantastic Raven by almost three lengths in a flying time of 29.24. This win was very deserved as Good Odds Cash had been a beaten finalist in both the Brother Fox at Dubbo, and the Million Dollar Chase at Wentworth Park recently, so she deserved her big race victory. Punters were left stunned after the final of the Richmond Derby (520m) when the outsider of the field, He’s Grand, led throughout to win and provide veteran trainer Rodney O’Brien with his biggest win after a lifetime in the sport. Bred, owned and trained by O’Brien, He’s Grand displayed his customary early speed to set up a three length lead into the back, and then was able to hold on strongly to win by over length from Chasing Fernando, in a fast 29.49. More big race wins are in store for this fellow after his win last night, especially given his tremendous early speed.
Tonight we have greyhound racing at Dubbo, Wentworth Park and The Gardens in NSW, Warragul and The Meadows in Victoria, Ipswich in Queensland, and Cannington in West Australia. Let us see if we can find some winners for our loyal followers.
Wentworth Park Race 3 No 3 Lektra Lad
$1.65 at PlayUp – Proven big time performer at this track having won the Group 3 Bob Payne final recently so does look well placed in this field. Reliable beginner who should be able to hold the lead in the drive to the first corner and that should decide the race. Looks over odds for us.
The Meadows Race 5 No 1 Manila Dusk
$2.80 at PlayUp – She has found the 650 metre trip at both Ballarat and Bendigo a touch too far at her latest two starts, as the 600 metres of this event appears to be her limit for now. She has tremendous early speed and drawn perfectly to lead throughout in this race. Looks the best bet of the night, so make her your banker in all your multi bets tonight.
Warragul Race 6 No 1 Shima Punga
$2.00 at PlayUp – Has been racing consistently of late including a strong win up the straight at Healesville at his most recent outing. Perfectly drawn in the rails box so should be able to prove to strong for his opposition in this event.
Wentworth Park Race 5 No 7 Return Mac $
5.50 at PlayUp – Recently joined the very strong John Finn kennels and has since been racing very consistently here without winning. We like him drawn off the track as he does like to race outside dogs. This does look a very winnable race for him. This dog has a nice win in him going forward and tonight will be a kick start to a promising career.
Wentworth Park Race 7 No 6 Super Estrella
$4.00 at PlayUp – This is an outstanding field of stayers and worthy of being a group final. Super Estrella is a proven performer at this level and at this track, only missing a place three times from 29 starts at the track. She was desperately unlucky at her most recent start at The Gardens. She has the speed to lead throughout here tonight.
