A MASSIVE night of greyhound racing awaits punters tonight at Sandown Park, with the running of eight heats of the 2021 Melbourne Cup, supported by four heats of the Bold Trease for stayers, both events being Group 1 status.
Given it is such a big night of racing, we will provide selections for all the twelve races on the Sandown Park racing.
Sandown Park Race 1 No 4 Stanley Road $1.40 at PlayUp
Despite being a slow beginner, he looks an absolute special in this field. Very unlucky last start at The Meadows in a Group 1 event. Finds the line hard. Look for Untapped (6) to establish a long lead early. Selections: 4-2-6-1.
Sandown Park Race 2 No 1 Highly Explosive $2.70 at PlayUp
Stepping up to the longer trip for the first time but indicates it should suit. Will find the lead mid race, with Run Like Jess (7) expected to lead. Look for Line Of Quality (5) finishing hard late. Selections: 1-5-7-2.
Sandown Park Race 3 No 3 Kenny The Brute $2.80 at PlayUp
Very consistent stayer who will be in the lead at some stage of the race. The 8 dog is the question mark, sparingly raced of late but is high quality. Selections: 3-8-4-7.
Sandown Park Race 4 No 5 Whodat Diva $5.50 at PlayUp
Racing in superb form, her run last week was sensational. Look for Mepunga Ruby (8) to set up handy lead early but we are expecting our selection to be too strong late. Selections: 5-8-3-1.
Sandown Park Race 5 No 2 Koblenz $1.35 at PlayUp
Faultless beginner who can run seriously fast overall time. Looks a certain leader and winner in this heat. Look for Jepara (6) to run an improved race. Selections: 2-6-3-1.
Sandown Park Race 6 No 8 Tommy Shelby $2.50 at PlayUp
Return to racing of the WA star chaser, but he looks the winner despite a far from ideal draw. A seriously good greyhound. Barooga Smoke (5) races well this track and if he was to find the early lead he would take running down. Selections: 8-5-7-1.
Sandown Park Race 7 No 7 Ben Mayo $8.50 at PlayUp
In the strong Anthony Azzopardi kennel, had no luck at most recent start here. Drawn to sit on the early leader, which we expect to be Hadouken (1), but should prove too strong over concluding stages. Typhoon Sammy is a danger if he flew the boxes. Selections: 7-1-8-2.
Sandown Park Race 8 No 3 Aston Rupee $1.55 at PlayUp
Fastest greyhound in Australia and despite a tricky draw, we just cannot tip against him. Fernando Bluey (4) could cause issues at the start, but Rupee is all class and weather the storm. It is an extremely strong heat. Selections: 3-6-1-4.
Sandown Park Race 9 No 2 Do It $2.30 at PlayUp
Recent Adelaide Cup winner, drawn to perfection in this. But it is a tough heat and if one of the outside drawn dogs get a fly they may prove difficult to run down. Selections: 2-1-7-6.
Sandown Park Race 10 No 1 Weblec Blazer $1.65 at PlayUp
Outstanding chaser who will appreciate this inside draw, and looks the best bet of the night. Use him as your banker in all multi bets tonight. Selections: 1-7-5-3.
Sandown Park Race 11 No 4 McCooly’s Lad $3.60 at PlayUp
Star galloper who has been plague by a serious injury over the last year. Lightly raced but set for this one crack at a group race. Has the speed to lead. Lakeview Walter (1) is well drawn and will be finding the line very hard in the concluding stages. Selections: 4-1-7-2.
Sandown Park Race 12 No 8 Rebellious $3.00 at PlayUp
Last heat of the Cup but maybe the most open with a case could be made for all eight dogs. Rebellious should find the lead and if he does he should win. The two inside dogs are very well drawn but may upset one another. Selections: 8-1-2-7.
