There has certainly never been a better time than the present, to be involved in the greyhound industry, as the sport continues to go from strength to strength. All aspects of the sport seem to be meeting, and/or exceeding the expectations of it’s participants and the general public. Integrity, welfare, publicity, and racing in general, especially prize money, are so important to the success of the sport, and how the sport is perceived by those outside. And the perception of the general public has never been better, thanks to some outstanding efforts by the various state administration bodies, and all the participants. The future of this wonderful industry, and the future for these beautiful animals who simply love to race, looks so promising. Get involved, if you are not already involved, is my suggestion.
The racing focus tonight is spread far and wide, another night of great racing ahead of us. The Greyhound Racing New South Wales Country Classic (605m) semi finals at Dubbo, the heats of the Group 1 Perth Cup (520m) and heats of The Galaxy (715m), both at Cannington, plus the final of the Ipswich Auction Sprint Series (431m), are the major highlights of racing tonight. Dubbo Race 5 No 4 Valor Bale $3.60 at PlayUp – Victorian trained middle distance performer who qualified for tonight via an outstanding heat win at Richmond, on the back of excellent form at both city tracks in his own state. Rails well and is strong so this track should suit. Selections: 4-6-1-8.
Dubbo Race 6 No 4 Tania Keeping $4.60 at PlayUp – Outstanding performer when she finds the early lead, as she did last start at Nowra when she broke the track record over the 630 metre trip. Originally trained locally so she will know this track well. Looks leader and winner. Selections: 4-2-1-5.
Dubbo Race 7 No 3 Shipwreck $4.80 at PlayUp – Queenslander who is new to middle distance racing but showed his class qualifying at Grafton by leading all the way over 640 metres. Handles all tracks well. This is an even heat. Selections: 3-5-7-8.
Dubbo Race 8 No 1 Come On Aussie $3.90 at PlayUp – Kennel mate to Shipwreck and can make it a double for the kennel here. Leader with great strength. Very well drawn here. Selections: 1-8-7-9.
Cannington Race 1 No 2 Ariarne Bale $1.40 at PlayUp – Star Victorian, proven group performer, versatile chaser, who can lead or come from back. Selections: 2-4-3-1.
Cannington Race 2 No 1 Couch Surfer $1.30 at PlayUp – Best stayer in West Australia, winning last eight straight. Clash with Moraine Suzie (5) will be huge. Not a lot between them. Selections: 1-5-3-8.
Cannington Race 3 No 8 First Picked $4.80 at PlayUp – Victorian who had no luck here last week at first run on the track, but did hit line well. Can lead this field. Tsar Bell (3) has massive motor. Selections: 8-3-6-1.
Cannington Race 4 No 2 Yahoo Serious $3.00 at PlayUp – Loves being drawn near rails. Local greyhound who knows this track inside out. Selections: 2-8-1-3.
Cannington Race 5 No 2 Fernando Mick $1.55 at PlayUp – Recent Australian Cup winner who takes to all tracks with ease. Stand out in this. Selections: 2-6-8-7.
Cannington Race 6 No 3 Paddy Wants Pats $3.10 at PlayUp – Finalist last year in this race. Recently returned to the track after injury enforced lay off. Can lead and win in this heat. Selections: 3-6-1-2.
Cannington Race 7 No 7 Crumble Monelli $1.55 at PlayUp – Form runner winning thirteen of his sixteen starts. Wins from the front. Selections: 7-2-3-4.
