Today’s EPL Best Bets Explained
Everton vs. Manchester United: Number of cards over 3.5 – 1.80 @ PlayUp
Frank Lampard’s Everton are in an absolute tailspin, with the midweek defeat at relegation rivals Burnley (despite being 2 goals up) being the nadir of a woeful season to date (they’re now odds-on to be relegated). United are languishing in seventh but a top-four finish is still very much achievable.
In short, there’s all to play for and United’s trips to Goodison are typically action-packed affairs. Both teams average two yellow cards per game this season, with the Toffees topping that up with a league-best (-worst?) four red cards. Three red cards have been shown in United matches this season too, so we think over 3.5 cards is well worth a punt at 1.80.
Aston Villa vs. Tottenham Hotspur: Spurs to win – 2.2 @ PlayUp
Aston Villa’s move for Steven Gerrard back in November has paid dividends. At the time of his appointment the Villains were just two points above the drop zone – they’re now comfortably in mid table and a top-half finish is on the cards. However, their home form has been poor of late with only one win for the Holte End faithful to cheer since early December.
Spurs face a tough fight to secure a top-four spot but their outrageous goal-scoring form of late has seen them hold off London rivals Arsenal and West Ham. Kane, Son and co. have bagged a frankly ridiculous 21 goals in their previous six EPL games and only conceded four, so we think they’ll outscore Gerrard’s men on Saturday.
Manchester City vs. Liverpool: Under 9.5 corners – 2.0 @ PlayUp
This is a mouthwatering tie. A single point separates Pep and Jurgen’s men at the top of the EPL table and, even with seven more games to go after the final whistle is blown at the Etihad on Sunday, it’s not a stretch to say that this match could be the one that decides the title.
Both of these teams win corners for fun against most other EPL teams. However, if you look back at the recent league meetings between the two, you’ll find that the average number of corners per game over the last seven meetings has been 6.7 and only one match had more than 8 corners.
