Another action packed program of midweek racing is here for the first time in March. Leaving the summer season behind us and entering the Autumn carnival, it is clear to see the standard of horses competing at these midweek races is improving greatly. Racing takes to Flemington for the second time in five days, with a great eight race program. Big fields and open markets should allow for a competitive day of betting. Down in Sydney, they will be lining up on the inner Kensington track at Randwick. We also see meetings from Hobart, Murray Bridge, Doomben and Bunbury. PlayUp form analyst Lewis Willoughby has outlined five key bets he will be having, and urges you to follow him in. Check them out below.
Flemington R2 #3 Delusions $3.90 at PlayUp– It was an absolute horror watch on this Maher & Eustace trained mare last start, jumping from barrier three at Sandown and getting strung up on the fence behind a wall of horses for the entire straight. It was a complete forgive run, so focus on the strong win two starts back. That was over this exact same 1200m trip down the straight at Flemington, so she obviously enjoys racing here. She recorded a quick last 600m sectional that day, and even her sectionals at Sandown in the forgive run are still quicker than her rivals. Craig Williams jumps back aboard, and drawing barrier one is a positive with this rail out 4m. She can atone, take the current price on offer
Flemington R3 #10 Cielo D’oro (BEST) $4.60 at PlayUp – Lindsey Park gelding comes here first up after a promising debut campaign at the end of last year. He started off with a debut win at Geelong, scoring nicely that day. It shows that he has the ability to run very well fresh, and that is a major key in putting him on top today. Two lead up trials for this run have been outstanding, showing very good acceleration without being asked. In the latest one over 800m, he settled near enough to last and put them away in the straight very comfortably, rocketing through the line as well. Lachlan King claims 2kg to bring him down below the bottom weight, and he is drawn well in barrier three. Expect him to be very sharp and ready to go here first up.
Flemington R4 #5 Whykayoh $17.00 at PlayUp – Thought the double figure quote currently going around for this horse was massive overs. Last start at Morphettville he ran a very credible third against a leader bias, running through the line strongly over 1400m. The overall time for that race was 1:23.43, which is far quicker time over that distance than any of the rivals he faces today. Stepping up to the mile is suitable, and the booking of a senior rider today will also help his cause. He maps perfectly to get a sit just in behind the leaders, and is definitely worth an each way bet at his current price.
Randwick – Kensington R2 #4 Just Field $9.50 at PlayUp – Another good each way bet here, I was really taken with the trial of this Snowden filly. Over the 1050m, she settled last and once balanced in the straight was slipped some reign by Avudlla. She accelerated very quickly and could’ve possibly won the trial had she been completely let go, but she was quickly restrained again and kept under a hold to the line. I think many people may have missed that quick burst of speed, hence why she has come up big odds. If the real Just Field shows up today, she is a serious chance of winning. Drawn well, Avdulla sticks aboard from the trial, and has won fresh previously, so there is no worry about her being able to peak here.
Randwick – Kensington R8 #4 Deference $3.40 at PlayUp – Comes here third up ready to peak after two very solid placing’s to kick off the campaign. The run last start behind Splintex over this 1100m trip in the heavy track would have brought him on very nicely, expecting him to be rock hard fit lining up today. Clearly enjoys this sprint trip, and that fitness edge over his main rivals may prove telling. Back on top of the ground, and Hugh Bowman jumps aboard and is riding in white hot form at the moment. This is not an overly strong race, and it is time for this Godolphin gelding to rejoin the winners circle.
