The smell of Autumn quality racing is in the air, with a number of group and listed races taking place over the weekend. We are spoilt for choice betting-wise today, with 12 TAB meetings taking place over the country. Caulfield plays host to the exciting Blue Diamond Previews for the talented 2YO’s, Randwick has the running of the listed Carrington Stakes, while up north it’s Sunshine Coast Cup day, with 10 races engaged and massive fields to boot. With such an exciting day of racing ahead of us, PlayUp form analyst Lewis Willoughby has locked down five key bets to have throughout the day. Take a look below…
Caulfield R1 #4 That Girl (BEST) $3.20 at PlayUp – Absolute horror watch last start for this Stokes mare, held up at vital stages, only got clear running the last 100m when it was all over. She still managed to run quicker splits than her other rivals which she faces again today. From barrier 3 she will likely settle back on the fence, so with an ounce of luck getting clear again on the turn, she should be atoning for that defeat last start and winning here.
Caulfield R4 #2 A Beautiful Night $9.50 at PlayUp – Thought this was a great race to find some value in, as those in the top of the market have drawn wide and may endure tough runs. This 2YO filly for Maher and Eustace was a great winner second up last start at Flemington, reeling off the 4th fastest last 600m & 400m splits of the entire meeting, which is a huge effort for a young horse. Has drawn well today in barrier 6 and should be able to get cover one out. Double figures for this horse is the wrong price.
Randwick R6 #3 Helga $2.60 at PlayUp – Strong win last start from this consistent mare, proving too good over the 1500m at this track. The extra 100m to the mile looks to be suitable, and jockey Chris Williams has a very good record on this horse. Only rises 2.5kg after the claim, and should be able to follow Missybeel across from the wide barrier to settle handy on the speed. Handles good and soft going, I can’t see why this horse won’t win again. Put Missybeel in quinella/exacta bets.
Randwick R7 #6 Gaulois $6.50 at PlayUp – The run of this Godolphin gelding in QLD first up was sound, and that was in a race with about equal depth as what he encounters here. Has had a 1000m trial to keep him fresh since that run, so will be here second up. Record is 6:1-4 second up, and 9:3-3 at the distance, so on paper everything looks good. Holds weight and distance from last run, I thought the current price on offer was a good bet.
Sunshine Coast:R8 #1 Better Reflection $2.60 at PlayUp – This talented filly is resuming here off a short spell. Has only ever missed the placing’s once in her six start career, and that was as a 2YO in the Magic Millions classic. She was a great winner first up last prep, and has drawn the inside here today to get a suck run midfield behind the speed. If Ryan Maloney finds clear air in the straight, it should be all over and she can be winning this. Also have something small each way on Better Than Gold, at around the $20 mark she is over the odds.
