Happy New Years! Hopefully 2020 will be filled with a lot of winners, and what better way to start that than to have a punt today. New Years Day is always a big day of racing for race clubs, with 11 TAB meetings and a huge number of Picnic meetings taking place around the country. PlayUp form analyst Lewis Willoughby has identified five key bets to have today, spanning from Flemington to Randwick, and a bet at Terang as well.
Flemington: R1 #4 Bombay Rocket $4.20 at PlayUp – Always hard to bet in these 2YO races, but I have been taken with the way this horse has jumped out. Won the latest jump out under a big hold, looks to have an abundance of speed and really works hard through the line. Early money has been strong, jumps from a good barrier with a leading jockey.
Flemington: R8 #4 Heavenly Emperor $5.50 at PlayUp – This is a wide open affair, but I thought the early price on offer here was a bet. Last start was a forgive, struggled to work into the race at Wodonga and still managed to finish close up. Two back the win at The Valley was full of merit, comes here off a freshen with good track/distance stats. The 2kg claim brings it right into contention.
Randwick: R5 #4 Gunga Din $4.00 at PlayUp – Won a Highway Handicap by 4L last start, was most impressive that day. Has since had a quiet trial back in Canberra to keep it sharp and on the mark, and Nash sticks aboard. Hopefully a few of these decide to roll forward to ensure a genuine speed, as this horse will get back and need the pace on so it can come over the top late.
Randwick: R7 #3 Voila $4.00 at PlayUp – I think it’s time for this horse to win now. Two runs this prep have been good, hitting the placing’s both times. Will be very fit now third up and looking to peak, stepping up to the 1400m should be no issue. Drawn barrier 2, Bowman on.
Terang: R5 #1 Epic Grey (BEST) $2.45 at PlayUp – I’m expecting Lindsey Smith to be the star of the show at Terang today, and this is his best chance. Resuming from a spell, last seen running 2nd to Tavisan over 1200m at The Valley. First up record is 6:0-5 and has won and placed at the distance. Has absolute panels on this field, get on!
