A really exciting Saturday program of racing is set down for today, with stakes level racing in four states across the country. In Adelaide, we have the final G1 of their carnival in the Goodwood, where some top class sprinters will battle it out. The feature meeting up north is the Gold Coast Guineas, meanwhile day 2 of the Scone Carnival has been transferred to Rosehill, and features races such as the 3YO Inglis Guineas, and the G3 Dark Jewel Stakes. Racing returns to Flemington down south, where there is a golden ticket into the Melbourne Cup up for grabs, going to whoever is able to take out the Andrew Ramsden Stakes over 2800m. PlayUp form analyst Lewis Willoughby has poured over the form, and identified five key plays to be having, check them out below.
Flemington R6 #2 King Of Leogrance $2.45 at PlayUp – The reigning Adelaide Cup winner lines up here for his chance at gaining the golden ticket into the Melbourne Cup. He has been spelled since his ultra dominant staying performance in the Adelaide Cup over 3200m, but i’m sure that Danny O’Brien would have kept him ticking over very nicely, with this race always being an aim of his to win.Coming back to the 2800m here is no issue, his ability to run out a strong 3200m, and wins over 2600m, prove that he is more than capable in this distance range. He clearly looks the superior staying horse in this field, and his proven ability at the longer trip makes him an easy on top selection. Selections: 2-7-12-11
Flemington R7 #4 Rupture $2.05 at PlayUp – Another stayer who is racing in outstanding form of late is Rupture, and he goes on top here in R7. He is absolutely flying at the moment, with two wins from two runs so far this prep. His last start win over 1700m at this track was dominant, and he meets a number of the same opponents here again. Up to 2000m now third up suits well, his form at this distance is top notch, with dominant wins around the country areas in previous preps over this trip. He has furnished into a very nice conveyance for Paul Preusker, and I see no reason why he won’t make it three in a row, striking a very similarly competitive race to last start. Rosehill R1 #10 Leg Work $4.40 at PlayUp – I’m really taken with the way this Danny Williams trained gelding has been winning his races. In two runs this year he has won them both by a combined margin of 4L, including a really dominant display in the wet at Wagga last start. The form out of the race has progressed really nicely, with the 3rd placed Damagic since coming out and winning stylishly. He gets in very well at the weights here with only 54.5kg, and the booking of leading rider in K McEvoy is a solid push. He is likely to be restrained from the wide alley for cover, and can challenge at the finish if he lets down well. Currently about his right price in the market. Selections: 10-3-9-7
Rosehill R9 #9 Prophet’s Thumb $10.00 at PlayUp – Sticking with this ultra-reliable daughter of I Am Invincible, who lines up here for start number three this prep. She was very good last start in a bm90 at Caulfield behind the talented Mystery Love, and has since made the journey north to contest this race. She strips fitter now third up, and is very effective at this 1100m journey, with a record of 8:2-1-3, as well as a third placing at this track & trip prior. At her best, she is a group-level performer, so I have no doubts she will be right amongst the finish here. Dropping 7.5kg from last start, and will be charging on at the finish. Selections: 9-12-3-2
Morphettville R9 #5 Street Icon $7.00 at PlayUp – This mare is running so much better than the form guide suggests, and looks over the odds here in another competitive race. Two starts back at Caulfield she was hard ridden and last on the turn, before flying home to grab 2nd at huge odds. She then had no luck in the G1 Sangster last start, only getting clear room very late and hitting the line hard. Back in grade here, and surely at the peak of her preparation, with even luck she can be right in the finish once more. Drops 1kg from last start, and has already been well found in early markets.
