Best Bets 12th August 2020

DJ play it again, as we find yet another wet and wild Wednesday coming up from our venues in Sydney and Melbourne. It feels like years since we’ve been met with a good track, and as usual we must be looking for horses who are proven in the going, and fitness never hurts either! Yet again there is a few nice types resuming all over the country as Spring creeps closer, with Doomben, Naracoorte and Belmont the other metropolitan meetings to look forward to. PlayUp form analyst Lewis Willoughby has outlines his five best of the day below.

Warwick Farm R3 #2 Merlinite $7.00 at PlayUp – Comes here third up fitter, off the back of a good effort last start at Canterbury. There was surely some concerns leading into that race over 1900m on a heavy 10 as to whether she would handle the wet going, but she did it nicely! Out to 2200m now, drawn for a suck run in barrier one, and gets in very nicely after the 3kg claim as well. Can go one better today! Selections: 2-3-6-1

Warwick Farm R4 #3 Willowheart $3.80 at PlayUp – Going to stick with this talented mare, who stuck on very well last start first up at Rosehill. That was a nice Saturday race, and condition just seemed to give out very late over the 1200m. Second up now and fitter, and comes back to 1100m which is very suitable, as both her career wins have come over this distance. Her heavy form likewise is strong, and she has already beaten last start winner Irish Angel by 3L early in her career. Drawn very well here in barrier three, this looks a winnable race for her and i’m keen to have a bet. Selections: 3-5-8-1

Warwick Farm R6 #1 Cisco Bay $6.00 at PlayUp – Comes here first up, and i’ve been very keen to back him wherever he landed fresh, as his recent trials have been exceptional. Two straight trial wins at Rosehill on heavy going, the latest coming over the longer journey over 1030m to ensure he is fit and forward for this assignment. Kicking off at 1400m suits here, and he is a previous first up winner. Drawn well in barrier two, expect them to roll forward here as they have been in his trials. Has been crunched in early markets, so it could be best to wait and see if he drifts again. Selections: 1-6-7-2

Sandown Hillside R1 #1 Diesel ’N’ Dust $4.60 at PlayUp – A few of the main chances here are coming out of races over the same track/distance on the same day back at The Valley three weeks ago. Diesel ’N’ Dust comes out of the boys edition, and ran a faster time with faster closing sectionals than the filly’s. His final 100m was electric, and he should be holding peak fitness coming in to this event. Has to carry more weight I do concede, but I think he has the edge on these, and love to see D Oliver sticking aboard. Selections: 1-4-6-2

Sandown Hillside R4 #10 Swing And Boom $8.00 at PlayUp – I’m a massive fan of the way that Swing And Boom has been jumping out lately, and I’m quietly confident that she has returned as an above average 4yo mare this prep. Her latest over 1000m at Caulfield she won extremely well, extending by a few lengths on the line without being asked, and finishing in front of Cadre Du Noir, who then ran very well at Saturday level. Her first up form is strong, and she is perfectly suited at the 1300m. Only one attempt on soft ground was at G3 level, so as long as she can get through the soft track I think she has to be a winning chance. Current odds are ridiculous. Selections: 10-8-3-12
