Thursday
7:40pm Richmond Tigers vs. Hawthorn Hawks @ MCG
Getting a draw in the first week back wasn’t ideal for Richmond, but it could have been a whole lot worse.
They did well to get back into the game after being behind 25-1 in the first quarter. It is an even better comeback when the quarters are shortened, so they should derive good benefit from the outing.
Hawks are coming off a big loss to the Cats and another loss looms. The line is at 15.5, which plays into the hands of Richmond backers.
They should win comfortably but still within the 1-39 margin, which pays $1.88.
Friday
7:50pm Western Bulldogs vs. GWS Giants @ Marvel Stadium
There wasn’t much to get excited about for either team last week but it makes for an intriguing game on Friday night.
The Bulldogs didn’t fire a shot against the Saints, which is a team they would have fancied themselves against.
One of the biggest upsets of Round 2 was the loss of the Giants at home against the Kangaroos. Expect a quick bounce-back effort from the Giants, despite playing at Marvel Stadium.
There is good value with the Giants –8.5 line and the 1-39 margin ($2.02). We can’t see the Bulldogs getting the better of the Giants in this matchup.
Saturday
1:45pm North Melbourne Kangaroos vs. Sydney Swans @ Marvel Stadium
Momentum is key in the early stages of the AFL and the Kangaroos are coming off a tidy effort against GWS.
It was a key win for the franchise and the Swans will have to play much better than they did when losing to the Bombers last week.
Money is coming for the Kangaroos and it is not surprising. They could put up a number on the Swans and really make a statement.
There is value in the 40+ market @ $5.90. It will take a good effort but place a saver on the head-to-head and –8.5 line options.
4:35pm Collingwood Magpies vs. St Kilda Saints @ MCG
Collingwood gave up a big first quarter lead on Thursday night, but there was plenty to like about their performance.
They should get better as the season progresses and although the Saints are coming off a tidy victory, the level of opposition increases here.
Money is coming for the Saints with the 15.5-point head start, but the class of the Magpies should shine through in the second half.
The safe money is with Collingwood 1-39, which has more chance of cashing with the shortened game.
7:40pm Brisbane Lions vs. West Coast Eagles @ Gabba
There isn’t much between these two teams in the head-to-head market. Brisbane holds a slight advantage in the betting and they should hold a slight advantage at the end of the game.
Brisbane is always tough to beat at the Gabba and although there are no crowds, it’s still an advantage to play in your home state.
Take the –2.5 line and also the 1-39 @ $2.16. There isn’t too much risk with taking that option as we can’t see the Lions winning by 40+.
Punters could also entertain the draw @ $41. There has already been one so far and these teams match up evenly.
7:40pm Geelong Cats vs. Carlton Blues @ GMHBA Stadium
A big win is expected for the Geelong Cats and the Blues are unlikely to put up much respite.
Coming off an easy 108-47 win over the Hawks, Geelong is looking like one of the teams to beat in 2020 and we can’t see the Blues standing in their way.
The Blues are coming off a heartbreaking one-point loss to the Melbourne Demons and that shouldn’t be a good form guide for the rest of the season.
The Cats should cover the 27.5-point line and they could even win by 40+, which pays $2.66.
Sunday
1:05pm Gold Coast Suns vs. Adelaide Crows @ Metricon Stadium
Can the Gold Coast Suns score rare consecutive victories? It’s entirely possible following the win over the Eagles last week and the market is finding it tough to split them.
The Adelaide Crows confirmed that they are one of the worst clubs in the competition this season. The heavy loss to the Power did nothing to get their fans on side, so winning this game is a must.
Desperation has never been a strong point for the Crows, so take the Suns to win and with the 1-39 margin @ $2.16.
3:35pm Essendon Bombers vs. Melbourne Demons @ MCG
Money has come for Essendon throughout the week and they are now likely to start this game as favourites.
After opening as slight underdogs to the Melbourne Demons, the Bombers have firmed into $1.86 and more money could come for last week’s winners.
The Bombers scored a six-point win over the Swans and we rate that victory higher than the Demons one-point win over Carlton.
It should be a close game, so take Essendon in the head-to-head market @ $1.86 and the 1-39 @ $2.24 for a bit more value
6:05pm Fremantle Dockers vs. Port Adelaide Power @ Metricon Stadium
Port Adelaide is coming off one of the more impressive Round 2 wins when dispatching the Adelaide Crows.
The Power has always been a confidence side and they could run up another big number on the Fremantle Dockers this Sunday.
The current line is 20.5, which isn’t easy to cover with the shortened game, but the Power should be able to rack up another win.
The 1-39 @ $1.88 is the safer bet for Power backers.
