Massive few days ahead for greyhound racing around the country, kick starting tonight at Albion Park in Queensland with four heats of the Group 3 Golden Ticket (520m). The winner and runner-up from each of the heats will progress to the final next Thursday, with the reward to the winner of the final being an automatic place in the field of eight for the upcoming Group 1 Gold Bullion (520m), a race worth $500,000 to winning connections. The four heats tonight comprise just the four greyhounds in each heat and comprise some outstanding sprinters from Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria and West Australia. We anticipate some very fast times being recorded tonight with minimal interference excepted due to the smaller field size. Great racing can be guaranteed but finding the winner in each of heats still looks a difficult task. At Angle Park in South Australia, the final of the listed South Australia Sprint (530m) will be run, plus six heats of the John Gray Memorial (530m). a race named in honour of a significant contributor to the sport in that state. The six heats appear very even on paper and will ensure for some great racing and no doubt the the final next week will be of a very good standard.
Friday night is generally a relatively quiet night in greyhound racing, but tomorrow night will provide an outstanding night of racing across three states. At Wentworth Park in New South Wales, five heats of the Group 1 National Derby (520m) and four heat of the Group 1 National Futurity (520m will be contested, both these races are for restricted age greyhounds. At Warragul in Victoria, the final of the Group 2 Warragul Cup (460m) will be run, with an outstanding field to face the starter, whilst at Mandurah in West Australia, the Group 2 GreyhoundWA Birthday Cup (405m) will be run and again an outstanding field of sprinters is assembled. And if that is not enough, on Saturday at Wentworth Park, five heats of the Group 1 Paw Of Thunder (520m) and two heats of the Group 2 Summer Distance Plate (720m) will be run.
Albion Park Race 5 No 5 Orchestrate $2.50 at PlayUp – First heat of the Golden Ticket and a top four dog field. Orchestrate does his best racing when he finds the lead early, we think this field does lack early speed and he should be able to lead. Once in front he can run some very fast times. High class greyhound.
Dapto Race 6 No 3 Fantastic Trixie $3.30 at PlayUp – Racing in great form at the moment winning three straight, including a fast win here, prior to her excellent second at this track and distance last week. Drawn to lead again tonight whilst her main danger is drawn awkwardly in box eight. Should find the front and be hard to beat.
Sandown Park Race 8 No 2 Amnesty $8.00 at PlayUp – Very talented greyhound who has been held back by a horror run of wide box draws. Finally draws close to the rails in a race that is very winnable. She can find a forward position from this more favourable draw and then prove too strong in the run home for her opposition. Excellent each way value.
Angle Park Race 8 No 2 Mallee Magic $4.60 at PlayUp – This greyhound has been the leading sprinter in SA for some twelve months, winning twenty three races in total including thirteen at this track and distance. Has excellent early speed and can hold the lead in this event. Strong dog who has won up to 600 metres. Odds available appear very attractive, hard to see him missing the top three.
Sandown Park Race 10 No 3 Zivon Bale $9.50 at PlayUp – Recently placed second in a top class field at The Meadows before two below average efforts at this track. Has nice speed and we can see him sitting second behind the likely leader, Ferocious Caitty (1) and the powering over the top of her in the home straight. Very good each way odds on offer.
Albion Park Race 11 No 3 Tungsten Miss $3.00 at PlayUp – A winner of five races at this track and distance plus further six placings, so she does look very well graded in this race. Form on paper does not read flash but she has been racing in much stronger fields. This looks a very winnable race for her. Best bet of the night for us so make her your banker in your multi bets.
