The queen of Australian greyhound racing, She’s A Pearl, yesterday made a successful return to the racetrack, after a three month injury enforced layoff, when she took out a heat of the Million Dollar Chase Goulburn series. Beginning only fairly from box seven, she quickly zoomed to the lead before the first turn, and despite getting a little weary on the closing stages, she never looked in danger, winning by three quarters of a length in 24.78. This time proved to be the slowest of the two heats,, with Aston Barra running a fast 24.66 in winning heat number two. The all important box draw has been kind to She’s A Pearl, drawing box one in the Regional final should guarantee her a place into the Million Dollar Chase semi-finals to be conducted at Wentworth Park in three weeks time.What a story it would be, if She’s A Pearl could win back to back Million Dollar Chase finals and catapult herself into greyhound racing immortality. We will follow this story with much interest in the coming weeks. The series does continue this evening with the Dubbo Regional final, and then continues with heats at Broken Hill tomorrow, Nowra and Maitland on Monday, and then further Regional finals at Taree on Wednesday, Goulburn and Richmond on Friday.
All eyes will be focused on Wentworth Park this evening, when we will witness the finals of the National Distance Championship (720m) and the National Sprint Championship (520m). The fields comprise a greyhound from all six Australian states, plus are further representative from New Zealand. These greyhounds won their places into the final by qualifying for their state final, and then winning that final. In addition, the greyhound ranked highest in the last twelve months by Greyhounds Australasia, Gypsy Wyong (Distance) and Good Odds Cash (Sprint)also earned a place in the final. These races are highly regarded by greyhound participants and the events have been won by some superstars over the years. Hopefully we can find the winner of both events for our followers.
Wentworth Park National Distance Championship Race 6 No 4 Super Estrella (NSW) $1.45 at PlayUp – Outstanding in both heat and final of the NSW title when she led from start to finish to win in very fast time. Loves this track, she knows it inside out. Such a reliable beginner, and that should win her the race tonight. She deserves this Group 1 win, as does her trainer David Smith who has encountered so many near misses. Yes.
Wentworth Park National Sprint Championship Race 8 No 1 Simply Limelight (NSW) $2.40 at PlayUp – Just a youngster but he is racing in superb form. Explosive if given room after first thirty metres. Loves the inside so this draw is perfect. Very hard chaser who barges through narrow openings if required. But we think he can lead all the way. Rated our best bet of the night and your banker for your multi bets.
The Meadows Race 1 No 3 Amron Dan $3.90 at PlayUp – Very improved greyhound who won here in fine fashion two starts back but a colossal third here last start after almost falling in the first fifty metres. Displayed what a hard chaser he is last start. We expect him to be near the lead early and then prove far too strong late. Will go and win better races.
Wentworth Park Race 7 No 4 Midnight Return $2.80 at PlayUp – Lightly raced and still quite green but has a massive motor. Huge performance here last week to finish second after being out the back early in the race. Continues to improve with each run and this race looks very winnable for him. Keep following this dog.
The Meadows Race 8 No 2 Amron Boy $1.75 at PlayUp – Might just be the fastest dog in Australia. Outstanding win here last week in very fast time on a track rated as slow. Loves to race near the rails so this draw is perfect. Future Group 1 star and he will show that tonight. Absolute star greyhound.
The Meadows Race 12 No 2 Quincee Bale $3.40 at PlayUp – Does not win out of turn but is always there about. Excellent run last week when a closing third, and this race is probably a touch easier. Nicely drawn to land in a forward position early and then prove too strong.
Cannington Race 3 No 6 Soda Saville $2.15 at PlayUp – Got the money for us last week and can easily repeat the effort again tonight. He has taken a while to adjust to the distance racing but he finally is getting stronger. Should lead a long way and we think he will hold on. Likes racing at this track.
Cannington Race 4 No 4 Eagle Monelli $4.80 at PlayUp – Been costly for our followers in recent weeks, so this is his last chance. Slows starts have been proving costly. Bad draw tonight but he should get a run through around first bend with a couple of wide runners outside him. If he be in the first four down then back he is a big chance. Make sure you back him each way, Chance of a nice return tonight.
