Greyhound tips – 18th August

The 2022 Million Dollar Chase series in New South Wales is currently in full swing across regional tracks with their finals already completed at Casino, Gunnedah, Bathurst, Bulli, Gosford and Temora, whilst Wagga and The Gardens will conduct their finals over the next few days. The first three greyhounds from each of the regional finals progress to the semi-finals which will be conducted at Wentworth Park on 16 September 2022. Of the finals already completed, a number of greyhounds have really caught our eye with impressive performances and are likely to figure prominently as the series progresses. The win of the Victorian trained Plaintiff at Temora on Tuesday was outstanding, winning by three lengths in a very fast 25.80, and this dog has performed well at Wentworth Park previously. French Martini was stunning at Gosford, when she proved too strong for the flying Yoko Girl over the final stage and running a very fast 29.44 in doing so. Again, she has excellent form at Wentworth Park, and she is trained by the Million Dollar Chase maestro in Peter Lagogiane, so it would be no surprise at all to see her take out the final. We must mention the training performance of Ashley Dwyer, who managed to trifecta the Bathurst final on Monday with Charlie’s Jar, Special Blend and Joseph’s Coat, a fantastic training effort from a trainer with just a small team in work. The winner of the event, Charlie’s Jar, was the outsider of his three runners. All eyes will switch to Goulburn next Friday, when it is hoped that the last Million Dollar Chase winner, She’s A Pearl, will resume racing in her quest to go back to back in the event.

Tonight, we have racing across the country at Sandown Park and Warrnambool in Victoria, Dapto in New South Wales, Albion Park in Queensland, Hobart in Tasmania, Angle Park in South Australia and Mandurah in West Australia. We found winners difficult to come by last Saturday, our first negative night for some time. I think that was a one off and we return to our previous hot form by identifying a number of nice winners for our followers.

Sandown Park Race 2 No 2 Motive $3.60 at PlayUp – In the very strong Jason Thompson kennel who finished a very nice second here last week in very fast time. Suited by an inside draw despite the fact that he does like to use plenty of the track later in his races. He is strong. Just a young dog and lightly raced who continues to improve with each run. This does look a nice race for him.

Albion Park Race 4 No 8 Samona $3.70 at PlayUp – Let us down last week from this same draw when she never managed to get herself into the race. This field is not as strong, and also only has five runners which should allow her to race near the lead around the first corner. She is renowned for being strong in the closing stages that should assist her in getting a victory night. She is each way odds, and despite only two place dividends, that may be the way to go.

Albion Park Race 8 No 2 Impact $2.25 at PlayUp – Super win here two starts back in the Queensland heat of the National Sprint Championship, then had no luck at all in last weeks final when he should have finished much closer. Quality galloper who does like an inside draw and has the speed to find the lead early in this field tonight. We do really like him, and we think he is the best bet of the night so make him your banker in your multi bets.

Dapto Race 5 No 5 Miss Wanted $3.40 at PlayUp – She has been racing very consistently without winning of late. Has raced well at this track and distance in the past, being a winner of two races with five placings from seven starts. She is drawn in be near the lead all the way as she does have nice box speed. The favourite (8) is drawn to find some bother so we are hoping our selection can establish a winning break down the back.

Sandown Park Race 9 No 1 Sweet Vibes $4.00 at PlayUp – This dog has always given the impression that staying would be his caper. Generally a slow beginner but from this draw tonight we expect him to be positioned much closer to the speed early. He is strong and will keep coming and he does race well at Sandown. First up at the trip is a concern but on an each way basis we think he is well worth an investment.
