Midweek racing selections from the PlayUp form analyst
Warrnambool R2 #12 Life Lessons $2.80 at PlayUp – Very good run on debut from this horse at Sandown, finishing a close second only beaten half a length. The run was full of merit, stalking a strong tempo and looking the winner before getting beat by a horse who had the sit on it. Still managed to run the 6th fastest last 200m sectional of the day, and actually was the fastest horse in the entire meeting between the 400m and the 200m. Second up now and better for race experience, is drawn well and should handle the wet.
Warrnambool R3 #13 Friday At Five $6.00 at PlayUp – Very consistent galloper who has been in the money in three of four career starts to date. Her most impressive effort was two starts ago at Mornington, when she ran second to a leader who controlled a very slow tempo and couldn’t be caught. This runners last 400m sectional was 4L quicker than average still, and she likewise was strong at Pakenham last start. Rock hard fit now, she strikes another wet track to her liking and is mapped perfectly from barrier six to enjoy a good run.
Warrnambool R4 #10 Rayza Warrior $8.00 at PlayUp – Interesting race is this 4yo and up maiden, but since joining the Reece Goodwin stable, this horse has been flying. He was unlucky not to win at Werribee two runs back, protesting but the result stood. He was arguably ridden to cute at Pakenham last start over the mile, and in a race that ended up suiting the back markers he was left exposed outside the lead. His best career runs have come on a wet track, he will be on speed from barrier nine, and the 1700m now fourth up with winkers on looks a winning move.
Canterbury R2 #5 Kin $2.10 at PlayUp – The godolphin horse with James McDonald booked to ride looks the smart play here in this 2yo fillies maiden. This filly was very good in her first prep down in Melbourne, recording two minor places down the Flemington straight in strong performances. She resumed this prep in the G2 Percy Sykes, and was not suited by a bottomless heavy surface but was also far from disgraced. Second up here and fitter, huge rider change and the wide draw should help it find the better going in the straight. Keen this horse has some good ability and will be winning better races than this.
Canterbury R6 #4 Warrior Hero $4.80 at PlayUp – First up here for M Freedman, and comes off two good lead in trials where he hasn’t been asked for much of an effort. Both career victories have come on wet tracks, with a 3:2-0 record on soft and a 2:0-2 record on heavy going. I feel he relishes the wet tracks, and a 2nd place to Bacchanalia here at this track over 1200m last prep is extremely strong form for this. Another one who is well placed drawn a touch wider, and can be striking here fresh with T Berry booked to steer.
