HUGE night of greyhound racing across the country tonight, with The Meadows in Melbourne holding centre stage, hosting two Group 1 events, the Topgun Sprinters and the Topgun Stayers. The sprinters event over the 525 metre distance is worth $150,000 to winning connections, whilst the stayers’ event is run over the 725 metres trip and worth $75,000. Amazingly, both events has drawn together four greyhounds trained in New South Wales and four greyhounds trained in Victoria, making the races almost State of Origin like.
Later in the night, over in the west at Cannington, four heats of the Group 3 Young Stars Classic will be run over the 520 metres, with both first and second from each heat qualifying for next Saturday night’s final. An added bonus for the winner and runner up in the final, is that they then qualify for the West Australian match races series to establish who will represent WA in the rich Phoenix event to be run at The Meadows in mid-December
Two very interesting runners tonight at Wentworth Park are litter brothers, Zipping Conway and Zipping Kansas, products of the Superior Panama and Zipping Katelyn mating. Conway resumes tonight having last raced at Bulli back at the start of August, but he will be well conditioned by trainer Jason Magri for his first up run. A winner of five from his seven starts, all in blistering time. Conway gives every indication that he can match it with the very best in the land. Races like the Maturity Classic and the Paws of Thunder will be on his calendar. Kansas has recorded two wins from three starts since he recently resumed racing, including a 29.67 win at Wentworth Park. It will be interesting to see if he can go even faster tonight from his red box. He also looks headed for stardom. With a Million Dollar Chase not beyond him.
We did not enjoy the best of luck on Thursday where we were successful with just the one winner, but a couple of near misses indicate a big pay day is just around the corner.
The Meadows Race 4 No 3 Time For Peace $6.00 at PlayUp
Tina Womann trained youngster who can run blistering times when he finds the lead. Recently has been contesting very high grade event and this field appears an easier assignment for him. If he finds the lead it will be game over. Very nice each way odds.
Wentworth Park Race 7 No 3 Casual Glance $2.80 at PlayUp
This is an excellent race, with all dogs racing in strong form of late. Casual Glance is a star, having win 26 races from his 46 starts. He has been mixing it with the best in recent times and never far away. He will have benefitted greatly from his last start win at the track, in a time that was slightly slower than expectations. We have no doubt he can go much faster tonight. Drawn to lead.
Cannington Race 1 No 1 Myrtle Monelli $5.00 at PlayUp
A winner of 14 races including 4 over this track and distance, and 4 wins from box one. From this draw we think she can lead and win, in a race that is not overly strong. She looks the bet of the night for us, so ensure she is your banker in all your multi bets. Looks nice value.
Topgun Stayers The Meadows – The Meadows Race 6 No 8 Zac’s Entity Bet at PlayUp
Extremely even race, but we really like the lightly raced Zac’s Entity who will be having just his 8th career start tonight. What he lacks in experience he makes up for with ability. Capable of breaking the track record with a clear rum. Selections: 8-5-7-6.
Topgun Sprinters The Meadows – The Meadows Race 8 No 2 Aston Rupee Bet at PlayUp
Rated by many as the fastest dog on the planet after his track record run a Sandown Park recently. Has previously run blistering time here at The Meadows also. The scratching of Mr Fix It, a renowned speedster around this track, helps even further, potentially Rupee can lead throughout. Strong dog who can hold his ground when pressured. Eyes on the clock if he can find the lead early. Selections: 2-3-1-8.
