A massive G1 day of racing around the grounds, with the G1 Underwood Stakes set to be run at Sandown for the very first time. Rosehill hosts the G1 Golden Rose, where the favourite Anamoe looks incredibly hard to beat. Sandown R3 # 3 Linas Legend $2.50 at PlayUp – He’s unbeaten so far this campaign, two very impressive victories including last start here at Sandown over the 1300m where he put away a smart field with ease. Out the extra distance to 1400m now will be no issue, and he drops in weight through the official rise in grade. This doesn’t look an overly hard contest though, and looks to get a perfect map on speed from barrier two which should hold a big advantage with a suspected on pace bias.
Sandown R4 #4 Picarones $15.00 at PlayUp – Keen each way about the Godolphin runner here, who comes through a different form line to most in this race. She looked good closing off strongly at Flemington over 1100m last start, a distance which seems to be too short for her at this stage now as a 3yo. Now third up into the campaign and out to 1400m looks ideal, her closing splits last start indicating she should relish this rise in trip. Should get a soft run midfield with cover from the draw, and just brings a fresh take to the race as most of them finished behind the favourite Zouzarella last start.
Sandown R8 #3 Ironclad $5.00 at PlayUp – Hoping the Clarken star can bounce back here in the Testa Rossa, after he pulled up lame when resuming in Adelaide last start. He was certainly not helped by the fact he was parked three wide without cover in that race, so there is genuine excuses coming off the run. Returning here, no doubt Will gets him in top order for this race as they are definitely trying to get to bigger targets in the Spring. Can be ridden a touch quieter from the wide alley, and the booking of an in form D Lane reads very well.
Rosehill R7 #2 Entriviere $2.30 at PlayUp – This NZ mare looked outstanding winning the G2 Sheraco last start here over 1400m, putting away a number of key rivals who line up again here by over 1.5L. It was a dominant victory first up from a spell, and backed up her strong trials leading in. Now second up, the fact she can improve even more into this run looks a scary thought. 1400m now suits, J Mac obviously sticks aboard, and with any luck from the wide alley she will be winning again.
Rosehill R8 #1 Anamoe $2.00 at PlayUp – Getting out close to even money here, which is just absurd seeing that he looks the clear standout pick of winning this race. His return last start over the 1200m fresh was outstanding, as he had no right to win with the way the race played out and where he settled. But his final 100m split was electric as he tore through the line to win. Second up, fitter, 1400m a big tick, as is the dry track. His ratings simply mammoth any other horse in this race, only bad luck beats him.
