Horse Racing Tips May 5th

Day Two of the big ‘Bool carnival, take a look at PlayUp form experts’ selections below.

Warrnambool Race 5 #5 Makeover $3 at PlayUpA very exciting prospect in Mckeever lines up here, scratched from a harder race on day one to be saved for this assignment. His win on debut at Bendigo was very impressive, after sitting wide no cover throughout and putting a gap on them late. The second horse, King Dick, has since come out and win by close to 6L in its second start which has franked the form. The win was very high rating, and you would expect him to take great improvement here into the second career start. Drawn well for the track pattern, and has the scope to reach another level here. Looks the winner.

Warrnambool Race 7 #3 National Guard $4.00 at PlayUp  – Very impressed with the unbeaten campaign so far of National Guard, including a win at this track and trip when fresh. In similar heavy conditions, he won nicely and has then since backed up with a terrific win at Terang over the mile. He settled back off a slow tempo, and flew down the outside to win against the bias of the day in what was a massive win both to the eye, and on the clock. Third up fit here, trained locally which is always a huge advantage, and his racing pattern should allow him to come down the outside fence.

Warrnambool Race 10 #5 Nikau Spur $2.35 at PlayUpSecond up into the prep here for the Maher/Eustace camp, this horse was a very impressive fresh winner at Pakenham last start on rain affected ground. He settled back off the speed, straightened up in behind runners, and as soon as a gap presented he was through it and gone, with an amazing turn of foot. He ran the 3rd fastest last 200m of the entire meeting, all while being first up and on soft going. He comes here now second up, clearly likes a wet track, and the wide draw should be very suitable by this part of the day. The stable have a very good record at this carnival, and especially when they team up with J Allen.

Canterbury Race 5 #8 Sahra $4.40 at PlayUp  – Keen on Sahra here over the 1250m, on what is likely to be a rain affected track after some serious downpours on Tuesday. This horse was good first up last start, after getting way back and finding the line well in an easier race. Second up now, and will have the fitness edge over a number of rivals here which could be crucial on the soft ground. She rises in class, but gets a big weight relief to show for it, and her wet track form is superior to any other in this field. Rachel King hops aboard, a positive jockey change, and she looks good value here.

Canterbury Race 7 #3 Gemmahra $8.00 at PlayUpThird up here for the G Markwell horse, who has competed in two tougher races so far this prep. She won the provincial championships qualifier fresh, and then was no match in the final at Randwick there second up. Given some time between runs, she will find a wet track here that is very much to her liking. She has trialled very well previously on heavy going, and her last soft track run was at G2 level. Unbelievably well placed here in BM72 level with only 59kg, Mcevoy steps aboard, and she looks great value at her current quote.
