What a week in greyhound racing this week. Last night at Wentworth Park we had the final of the Group 3 Magic Maiden which saw the very impressive Bandit Ned make it 3 wins from 3 starts, and over $30,000 in stake money. Five heats of the New Sensation were also run there last night, with the Steve Kavanagh trained Louis Rumble the fastest heat winner in an outstanding 29.61. Meanwhile at Bendigo yesterday afternoon, 4 semi-finals of the Gold Rush Maiden were run and the perfectly named She’s Got Wheels was again ultra-impressive in recording a 6 length victory in the fast time of 23.55. The final of this event will be conducted on Sunday afternoon.
The action continues tonight at Sandown Park with the final of the Group 2 Launching Pad, where the connections of the winner will receive $150,000. It certainly is an open event, with any of the eight finalists a worthy winner. In addition to the main final, two consolation races will be contested for dogs placed 3rd and 4th in the semis last week, and both these events promise to be great races also. At Angle Park, the final of the Easter Cup over 600 metres has seen a very even group of dogs qualify, finding the winner looks a very hard ask. And don’t forget that on Saturday night we have the 4 semi finals of the Group 1 Golden Easter Egg at Wentworth Park, supported by 3 heats of the Group 1 Association Cup for the stayers. Sandown Park Race 1 No 6 Tom The Cheap $21.00 at PlayUp – Unlimited ability but does not always apply himself 100% in his races. Impressive winner at Geelong of a stewards trial recently before running second here on Sunday, in a heat for this event. Found plenty of trouble early in that race, but still found the line well. He will need some luck early, due to his average box manners, but he will be powering home. Looks to be very good value, on an each basis in this.
Dapto Race 2 No 3 Rockstar Newbold $1.90 at PlayUp – Very impressive in his three runs back from a break, recording solid placings on each occasion, all at Wentworth Park. It is amazing he remains a maiden, but tonight it does look his chance to break through. Despite normally being a touch tardy at box rise, he has the pace to find a forward position in the run to the first corner, and if he lobs in the first three, he should win from there. He is our banker for your multi bets tonight.
Sandown Park Race 7 No 4 Gypsy Yankee $2.40 at PlayUp – Unlucky here last Thursday in his semi final of the Launching Pad, when finishing 4th but only beaten 3 lengths, finding trouble in the run to the first turn. He should find the front in this, and he is a much better dog on the lure, but he is not alone there. Yes.
Launching Pad Final Sandown Race 8 No 1 Kuro Kismet Bet Now at PlayUp – Fast winner here in 3 of his last 4 starts, and his run in his semi final was huge after finding early both. Some believe he is better suited drawn in one of the middle boxes, but box one should allow him to settle off the expected early leader Hadouken and allow his strength in the final stages to get him home.
Albion Park Race 11 No 5 Crazy Cool $1.55 at PlayUp – Huge drop in class from her last 5 starts interstate, back to a Grade 5 at her home track where she has raced so well in the past, she looks a sure leader and winner. Don’t let the short price deter you.
