Midweek racing time on this Wednesday afternoon, and there are some good quality meetings taking place around the country. A 7 race card at Canterbury on a wet track is sure to throw up some rougher results, so our analyst has leant for some value there. Sandown Hillside is the metro meeting in Melbourne and will be the first meeting to kick off the day. Racing also from Eagle Farm, Murray Bridge, Darwin and Belmont to keep us entertained. With that said, PlayUp form analyst Lewis Willoughby has identified his five best of the day below.
Sandown R3 #7 Beauty Betty $5.50 at PlayUp – This looks a really cracking race, and i’m still keen on the prospects of Beauty Betty furnishing into a very good horse. She returns from a freshen here, and has an unbeaten fresh record, indicating her best performances come first up. Two back she pulled off an unbelievable win at Ballarat when given no hope, and last start she finished behind Front Page, which we all know is a very strong form line. Back to 1000m here suits, and she will be running on hard from beyond midfield. Selections: 7-1-6-3
Sandown R4 #6 Frondeur $4.60 at PlayUp – Another galloper coming here first up with an unbeaten fresh record, she was a dominant winner on debut over 1200m at Moe, and then managed to knock off Groot as a short favourite at Pakenham last prep when fresh. She then finished 2L off How Womantic in a G3 race before being spelled. Straight to 1300m no issue, weighted well and maps well also from the inside barrier. I think she can prove better than these here fresh, and go on to some nice races in the Spring. Selections: 6-5-9-1
Sandown R6 #11 Triple Strip $6.00 at PlayUp – Was well fancied last start at Caulfield when racing second up, and got way too far back against the pattern of the day on that occasion and was never a winning hope from there. Third up now peak fit, back to midweek grade and drops below bottom weight thanks to the claim. Out to 1800 as well should really suit, as will the return to a soft track rather than a heavy surface that it dealt with last start. A number of things back in its favour here, and it is currently a longer price than it was last start. Selections: 11-4-6-7
Canterbury R5 #11 Best Stone $6.00 at PlayUp – This J Thompson runner started in the market against Tailleur last start at Randwick, which is a fairly strong form reference. She was beaten a margin over the 1100m in that race on a proper heavy going, and that was also first up, where she may have just been found wanting in fitness as well. Second up here, and comes out in trip to 1200m which I think will really suit. The prospect of a drying track is needed for her, and she might get it. Likewise, she may find better going out wide from barrier twelve. Back to midweek grade suits, and Nash Rawiller has chosen to stay on board as well. Over the odds, each way play. Selections: 11-4-10-2
Canterbury R7 #5 Bentley Magic $4.20 at PlayUp – Comes off a nice last start win at Warwick Farm in equal grade, putting the field away that day with a smart ride from rider Louise Day, who sticks aboard here with her 3kg claim. Out to 1550m here should pose no issue, he seems as though he will begin to appreciate the longer trips as his prep goes on. The heavy no threat either, with a very strong effort two runs back at Doomben on a heavy 8. Drawn very comfortably in barrier two, and this does not look any harder than the race two weeks ago. With even luck he can win again. Also has form at this track behind California Zimbol last year, that reads well! Selections: 5-11-13-12
