Best Bets 20th June 2020

After picking all four tips correctly on Wednesday, Including an $11 winner and just over 800/1 if you had an all-up, PlayUp form analyst Lewis Willoughby is back again to share his tips for Saturday racing.

A strong day of Saturday winter racing comes before us here, as Randwick will be the first race course in Australia to allow patrons to enter its gates, a welcome relief i’m sure for the whole racing community. Punters on course are greeted with a solid nine race card, with the feature looking to be the Winter Dash over 1200m. The rail goes out +11m at Flemington, with the Listed A.R. Creswick Stakes being the feature of the day down there, and you can find a tip for that race below. Doomben rounds out its carnival with a few Listed events, while Morphettville and Belmont round out the other metropolitan meetings.

Flemington R1 #3 Man Of Peace $3.90 at PlayUp – Comes here fourth up in the preparation, down to Melbourne for the first time. Matthew Dale has got this gelding working very well, and he deserves a crack at this level in VIC. Three runs this prep have been very sound, including a win two back at Randwick in a good quality race, and then a 3rd last start behind Dealmaker after setting a hot tempo and holding ground well through the line. Peak fit now, sticks to the mile and maps perfectly from barrier 2. The claim for M Poy helps as well, should be right in this. Selections: 3-2-6-8

Flemington R7 #1 King Of Hastings $2.90 at PlayUp – Has returned very well this prep for the Freedman camp, and comes here third up looking to peak down the straight in this Listed event. First up he was only just brought undone by the track and distance specialist in Prezado when running 2nd over the 1000m here, then last start he won very easily against older horses in the Gold Topaz at Swan Hill. Looks to map perfectly midfield from barrier 6, and clearly the 1200m is his pet distance, having never missed a top two finish from six attempts. He has track and distance form, which is ultra important down the straight, and looks well weighted in comparison to horses in the field. Rider C Williams is hungry to win the jockeys premiership, he should add to his tally here. Selections: 1-10-3-5

Flemington R9 #5 Milwaukee $8.50 at PlayUp – I think the market has missed this horse to an extent by offering near double figure odds. Put simply, this horse cannot handle wet tracks, and his two best runs this prep have come when faced with a dry surface. He was beaten a narrow margin by Prezado two runs back, who continues to win, and then last start dropped out as favourite when running on a heavy 8. Quickly freshened after that run, returns here to the 1100m which looks more suitable, and with the prospect of a dry ground I think he improves immensely. He gets a very good weight swing against the horses from two runs back, and finished a lip behind King Of Hastings who looks to run favourite in R7. Use that as a form line, but i’m tipping this price won’t hang around forever! Selections: 5-1-4-8

Randwick R3 #3 Broken Arrows $6.50 at PlayUp – Keen on this horse in what looks to be a great race on paper. In three starts so far this prep, Broken Arrows has bumped into Adelong each time, and just been no match. Last start was an absolute horror watch, going through the whole Rosehill straight basically untested, after finding itself caught up. Fourth up here peak fit into the prep, the wet ground is no issue, and this is a big drop in class down from BM88 level. Has to rise in weight, that is my only knock, because with even luck today it will be right in the finish. Selections: 3-7-8-2

Randwick R4 #1 Mount Popa $3.40 at PlayUp – I loved the way this EU import hit the line in his first Aus start last time out at Flemington over the 1400m. In a distance range that is clearly not his best, he got through very well in behind runners, and put the writing on the wall. Second up now fitter, and straight out to the 2000m should be very suitable. Down to Syd and looks very well placed in a race of limited quality, I think this gelding has the upside to be winning this. Wet track no issue either, and draws nicely midfield or behind from barrier 7. Selections: 1-3-6-5
