It’s a race-free week in Victoria, so our PlayUp form analyst has cast their eye over the cards in Sydney and Brisbane to find you some winners for your midweek punting session. Check the tips out below.
Randwick – Kensington:
R1 #5 Naples $11.00 at PlayUp – This is a very hard race to kick start proceedings, with a number of highly touted debutants coming up against a few with race experience. I’m siding with Naples from the raced brigade, who has been solid in all 5 career starts so far. She beat good horses on debut at Caulfield in the Listed Debutant Stakes in her first prep and was placed at Gosford when fresh last prep. She brings in strong form lines, draws a good barrier, and the race experience always tends to give them an edge. Trials leading into this have been good, and she will most certainly appreciate the dry going.
R4 #2 Armatree $4.60 at PlayUp – Keen on the resuming Armatree for the Snowden team, a horse whose lone career win from three starts came at this track and distance. That was over a year ago, and it was a solid win for a horse who has only had one start since. That single start was a 3rd here behind the very talented Private Eye, and there is a lot of comparisons to be made about the lead into that run, to the lead-in for this run. Similar trials, including one over the 1000m, should have him primed for this assignment. Gets back, builds momentum from the turn and can strike late.
R5 #8 Explosive Truth $4.00 at PlayUp – Cannot understand the difference in the market between Explosive Truth, and the current favourite in Soami. Explosive Truth’s last start win at Kembla Grange over 1200m rated much higher than the favourite, and it was the second win from four starts this prep. Back on to dry ground will suit, he maps better than the favourite, and I think his current quote is great value here in a race which he should be winning. The booking of G Boss is only a positive.
Doomben:
R3 #1 Let’s Party Marty $3.20 at PlayUp – Looks the clear class runner of this event, and with the 3kg claim down to 56.5kg could be almighty hard to beat. Comes into this 1200m event first-up from a spell, and has a very strong fresh record with five starts for three wins, including a debut win at this track and trip over Snitz who has furnished into a very nice horse. The drying track at Doomben falls right into his favour, and he maps nicely from the barrier in a small field. Looks at the goods here.
R4 #8 Duchess Rothesay $4.60 at PlayUp – Keen on the Heathcote runner to break through at career start number two here, coming off a promising debut third here over 1200m the last start. A touch slow to leave, she stalked runners up the fence and made great ground through the line against the pattern of the race where the on speed horses dominated. With added race fitness and experience now, and in a race where there is more speed on plus extra distance, she gets everything in her favour to go a few better here with the drop in weight as well.
