Once again, we roll straight into another round of AFL action without even a day’s break. The experts at Total Sports Picks guided punters to 6/8 winners in Round 11 and are with you again to nail some more bets for Round 12. Let’s get stuck into the betting picks!
Sydney Swans vs GWS Giants
Thursday 8:10pm, Optus Stadium
Both Sydney and GWS are coming off a bye and will be looking to put their best foot forward in the ‘Battle of the Bridge’, which just so happens to take place in Perth this year.
The Swans are in clear rebuild mode and the results will tell you that. They’ve lost six of their last seven matches and look destined for a bottom four finish.
The Giants have had a topsy-turvy campaign but have come on strong over the past month with three wins on the trot.
GWS rank #8 in the competition for points scored, while Sydney come in at #16. Both clubs will be full of juice after a week off and will be able to set up their defences the way they’d like, making the Unders a great bet here.
Prediction: Under 125.5 Points @$1.80
Geelong Cats vs Port Adelaide Power
Friday 7:50pm, Metricon Stadium
Geelong proved far too good for St Kilda in what many labelled as a danger game for the Cats. Likewise, Port Adelaide showed us all they’re the real deal with a fantastic win over Richmond last time out.
The Power are coming off a six day break, while the Cats have had just the four day’s rest. The Cats have rotated their squad quite a lot over the past month however, so fatigue shouldn’t have a huge bearing on the result.
While this should be a fantastic game, it should also be a low scoring one. The Power rank #2 for points against and the Cats rank #3. It’s hard to see 18+ goals being kicked, so we’ll be taking the Unders again here.
Prediction: Under 125.5 Points @$1.85
North Melbourne vs Brisbane Lions
Saturday 2:35pm, Metricon Stadium
North had their big win over Adelaide in Round 9, but they’ve come right back down to Earth in their past two with some heavy losses.
Brisbane were able to bounce back from a poor showing against Richmond, with a big win over the Bulldogs in Round 11.
The Lions are by far the better team in this matchup and should be winning this very comfortably. North have a stack of injuries and simply don’t have the squad depth to cover them, which leads us to believe there’s a big Lions win on the cards.
Prediction: Brisbane Lions -28.5 @$1.90
Melbourne Demons vs Collingwood Magpies
Saturday 5:10pm, Gabba
Melbourne have had a soft draw in recent weeks and have been able to capitalise with a couple of big wins. Now 5-5 on the season, the Demons have the chance to go ahead of the ledger for the first time in 2020.
Collingwood have played three of the bottom sides in a row and haven’t looked at all convincing. Injuries have been a real issue for them this season, but their inability to hit targets by foot on a consistent basis has been the real killer.
It’s hard to have any faith in the Magpies after recent performances, even if they get a couple of stars back for this clash. On the other hand, the Demons have lifted their performance over the past couple of weeks and have a fantastic chance to take a scalp on Saturday night.
Prediction: Melbourne Demons @$1.90
Fremantle Dockers vs Carlton Blues
Saturday 8:10pm, Optus Stadium
Fremantle have brought the heat in their last two games, resulting in a couple of very impressive wins. A huge positive for the Dockers has been the play of their younger brigade, which will give their fans plenty to look forward to in the coming years.
Carlton also have their fair share of young talent and have shown some improvement as a team this season; however, the last couple of weeks have been pretty disappointing and it looks like it’ll be another year with no finals for the Blues.
Both sides are in rebuild mode and will have their ups and downs this season. In saying that, the Dockers have looked the far better team over the past two rounds and as long as they bring the heat again here, they’ll be making it three wins on the spin.
Prediction: Fremantle Dockers @$2.02
Western Bulldogs vs Adelaide Crows
Sunday 1:05pm, Metricon Stadium
The Dogs showed a bit of fight early on in their match against the second-placed Lions, but weren’t able to sustain their effort for four quarters.
There’s not too much to be said about the Crows without sounding like a broken record. They’re historically bad and likely won’t be winning a game this season.
The Bulldogs best would see them crush the Crows on Sunday, but even if they don’t bring their best they’ll still be winning this. The line of 34.5 might be a bit of a reach in the shortened quarters, so we recommend taking them 1-39.
Prediction: Western Bulldogs 1-39 @$2.02
St Kilda Saints vs Essendon Bombers
Sunday 3:35pm, Gabba
The Saints had a chance to make a statement against a quality team in the Cats in Round 11 but weren’t able to live up to the hype. Despite the loss, it’s been a fruitful campaign for the young Saints thus far.
Essendon were soaring home against the Suns on Wednesday night but had to settle for a share of the points with the scores being all tied at the end of the fourth quarter.
We’re still not convinced the Bombers are anything close to a flag threat this season and the quick turnaround might hurt them this weekend. Expect the Saints to bounce back with a pretty easy win on Sunday afternoon.
Prediction: St.Kilda at the line (Odds TBA)
West Coast Eagles vs Hawthorn Hawks
Sunday 6:10pm, Optus Stadium
West Coast are making the most of their run of home games and have now won six in a row. Some of their wins have required big fight backs in the second half, so there’s still plenty of room for improvement.
Hawthorn weren’t able to back up their big win against Carlton, going down to the lowly Dockers in Round 11. The Hawks certainly won’t be making finals this season and their ageing list remains a big concern.
The Eagles haven’t been thumping teams during their run, but this is a big opportunity to do exactly that. They should be far, far too good for the out-of-sorts Hawks.
Prediction: West Coast Eagles -26.5 @$1.90
Richmond Tigers vs Gold Coast Suns
Monday 7:10pm, Gabba
Richmond stuck on well for the most part in their clash against the ladder leaders in Port Adelaide last time out. They continue to play without a bunch of their key players in their line-up, but they’ve managed to stay afloat for the time being.
Gold Coast looked on their way to a great win against Essendon on Wednesday night but ran out of gas in the second half to finish level pegging. They’re stuck on four wins and continue to slide down the ladder.
On paper this looks to be a fairly easy win for the Tigers and we expect that to be the case. The Suns have been able to stay relatively competitive in most of their games however, losing by 30+ just twice this season. All things considered, Richmond by 1-39 looks the play to finish the round.
Prediction: Richmond 1-39 (Odds TBA)
