Back with another edition of Wednesday racing, for the first time in the month of February. Victoria holds two meetings today, the country meeting at Ararat, and the provincial meeting at Bendigo. Horses line up on the inner ‘Kensington’ track at Randwick, while they also race at Murray Bridge, Kilcoy and Geraldton. And if you still aren’t satisfied, there is racing from Happy Valley as always, which starts later on in the evening. PlayUp Form Analyst Lewis Willoughby has found five key bets to be having today, have a look below.
Ararat R1 #3 Mighty Oasis BT3SP at PlayUp – This Maher/Eustace gelding has started this prep in good style, recording two consecutive placing’s. Last start second up was just found wanting late over the 1770m at Geelong. Comes here fitter third up, and back down to the 1600m trip which should be much more suitable. Also worth noting that the blinkers go back on, just to sharpen him up. He looks perfectly placed hopefully, he gets through the soft going.
Bendigo R2 #8 Write To Rossa $3.30 at PlayUp – Siding with race experience and putting this filly on top. Has only had the one run so far in her career, and it was very sound, leading until very late stages when she got done. Sticks to the same distance as that debut run, and now has the benefit of race experience, and also race fitness. That is always a big bonus for these young horses, so with expected natural improvement, I’m tipping she can take this one out.
Bendigo R7 #3 Meuse (BEST) $2.30 at PlayUp – This expensive Freedman filly returns to the races after three runs so far in her career. Started with two wins in a row, then was far from disgraced in a very good 3YO race at The Valley. Her recent jump out I thought was good, sat on speed and was pushed out through the line. She obviously runs well fresh, as seen winning on debut at this exact same track/distance. In her recent jump out, she beat Wairere Falls, who lines up as the favourite in R3 on debut. If he is to win or at least run well in that race, it would give me extra confidence for Meuse. Barrier is no help, but hoping she is smart enough to overcome it.
Randwick-Kensington R1 #5 Volterra $3.40 at PlayUp – The run of this expensive ($1.3 million) Waller colt on debut was very good. Sat off back of a very talented high-speed horse in Hinchbeast, and only just missed when diving at it on the line. Worth noting that Hinchbeast then went on to run very credibly in harder races, while Volterra was sent from a spell. Resumes here off the back of a quiet trial, has the benefit of that race day experience which some others in this race don’t have. Drawn well and Bowman going aboard are two big positives.
Randwick-Kensington R3 #1 Sea Of Life/Morethannumberone $2.70/$16.00 at PlayUp – Ran very well first-up last start over the 1250m. The way he found the line was impressive after getting caught up at the rear of the field and not looking comfortable at all. This step out to the 1400m second up is perfect. He will be fitter now for that run and looks exceptionally placed to finally break his maiden status at start number four. If you’re looking to back something at each-way odds in this race, look no further than Morethannumberone, who finished just off Sea Of Life
