Another big day of G1 racing with the running of the Makybe Diva Stakes at Flemington the feature. It looks a competitive day all around the grounds and the PlayUp form analyst has identified five winners below.
Flemington:
R1 #4 Alpha One: $3.20 on PlayUp – Think the current favourite Doull is a touch short, coming into this first up onto a wet track with only the debut win under the belt. Alpha One comes into this race rock hard fit having already had four solid runs this prep, including three wins and a last start 2nd behind the very talented Giga Kick. He handles wet going, as highlighted by a dominant 4L win at The Valley two starts back, and the horse he beat there in Shalaman has since won. The wide draw down the Flemington straight is a massive positive, and he can be winning here.
R4 #16 El Rocko: $5.50 on PlayUp – Hopefully this Mcardle runner gains a start because I believe he is a huge winning chance with superior wet track form to others in the race. Four runs this prep for two wins and two placings, he thrashed them on a heavy 9 track three starts back at Sandown proving his heavy dominance. Two great runs at Caulfield behind smart types, he looks set for a black type level run and will get conditions to suit if he runs. Drawn well, no weight on his back with only 54kg and the J Mott retains the ride.
R5 (G1 Makybe Diva Stakes) #1 I’m Thunderstruck: $2.50 on PlayUp – Very bullish on the favourite here, looking for another G1 victory after winning the G1 Toorak last Spring. His first up run behind Snapdancer in the Memsie was sensational, coming from an impossible winning position after the winner led, controlled and held on. There was a big gap back to the others, and historically the Memsie has been a strong form reference for this race. Second up, handles any track condition, and should get a perfect run from barrier one.
Rosehill:
R6 #5 Golden Mile: $3.50 on PlayUp – A very even and competitive edition of the Ming Dynasty this year, and i’m tipping the Godolphin runner can turn around a 2nd placing in the G3 Up And Coming last start. He got back in running behind an ok tempo, and then was forced to make a run closest the fence which was absolutely poison ground on the day. He managed to somehow keep finding through the line, running a last 200m sectional that was top ten for the meeting. Second up now, fitter, and stepping to 1400m are all positives for this colt.
