With just 7 rounds remaining in the AFL home and away season, the Brownlow betting markets are starting to heat up with some clear front runners emerging on the back of some stand out performances in recent weeks.
Below we’ll dive deeper into the current favourites’ recent form to predict who’s most likely to leave the Crown with Charlie around their neck come September.
1. Patrick Cripps – $3.25
Crippa has put together a solid body of work in season 2024 thus far – averaging an elite 28.7 disposals per game (0.6 more than his 2022 Brownlow winning year). Despite their loss to GWS last week, Cripps racked up 33 disposals including a couple of goals so we’d expect him to pick up another vote or two there.
With the Blues coming up against 3rd favourite Marcus Bontempelli’s Dogs this week, Saturday afternoon could be a pivotal game for the outcome of the 2024 Brownlow.
2. Nick Daicos – $4.00
After a knee injury cost him a likely win in 2023, Nick Daicos is being well backed by punters to feature prominently at the pointy end of the 2024 count. Averaging 30.6 disposals and 7.4 clearances a game – Daicos has impacted games consistently all year with his signature speed and silky delivery up forward.
Even though the Pies aren’t traveling as well as they’d like, Daicos continues to rack up large quantities of quality possessions and should take it right up to the others on Brownlow night.
3. Marcus Bontempelli – $5.50
The Bont is a regular contender for the AFL’s top honour and is shaping up to be right up there again in 2024. Whilst he is only averaging 26.3 disposals per game, Marcus Bontempelli stands out for his ability to hit the scoreboard – averaging 1.5 goals per year over the first 17 rounds.
A quiet showing by his lofty standards against the Power last week has caused The Bont’s price to drift out slightly, however if he fires against Blues at Marvel Stadium this week and beyond – there’s no reason why he can’t finally take home the Brownlow this year.
4. Zach Merrett – $7.00
The Bombers have been the surprise packet of 2024, thanks largely to the efforts of gun mid Zach Merrett. Averaging a consistent 28.5 disposals a game, Merretts numbers stack up well against the likes of Cripps, Bontempelli & Daicos. If he continues his recent form over the better part of the next 7 rounds, Merrett has every chance of getting the win on Brownlow night.
There’s still plenty left to play out in season 2024 – so we’re not discounting the likes of Lachie Neal, Errol Gulden and Caleb Serong – however if Cripps, Daicos, Bontempelli and Merrett continue with their recent form they’ll be hard to catch!
