Best Bets 18th January 2020

Welcome to another great day of Saturday racing. The main feature of racing today is the Launceston Guineas, which runs as a twilight meeting down in Tasmania. Rain has finally hit Sydney and parts of country NSW and Victoria, so we are expecting track conditions at Rosehill to be in the very soft/heavy range. There is nine competitive races at Flemington, Eagle Farm and Ascot, so check out PlayUp form analyst Lewis Willoughby’s five best bets for the day below!

Flemington R2 #6 Red Heeler $2.50 at PlayUp – Racing in very good form at the moment, last start just missed in this grade over 1400m, but ran a very good last 600m split. Super fit now, stepping back up in distance should suit and it maps very well midfield. First attempt at this distance, but promising wins over a mile tell me that it should be no issue.

Flemington R6 #8 Fabric $4.00 at PlayUp – Talented mare resuming here who always runs a cracking race first up. Not only does she fly fresh, but she is very effective winning over this 1400m distance. Recent jump out was sharp over 800m, finding the line very well, and Craig Williams has had a lot of success on her back previously. Everything on paper just looks to add up, should win!

Flemington R8 #5 Our Campana $5.50 at PlayUp – Thought the price was wrong about this horse, has won two on the trot now, including wins over horses in this field. Last start far to good, held everyone else at bay on the line. Steps an extra 100m today, but that should be no issue. Fourth up, peak fitness, from barrier 5 maps to get a nice run behind horses in the straight, all boxes are ticked. Might even get an each way price on the day!

Rosehill R7 #4 Invictus Salute $4.40 at PlayUp – The rain has been falling in Sydney, and the more it falls, the more confidence I have in this mare winning. Resuming from a slight freshen up after a solid win and two placing’s from her last three runs. The small claim for Robbie Dolan brings her to a lower weight than other main chances, and she has never missed the top three when running on a heavy track. From barrier 7, she should find cover in a two-wide line, and find slightly better going out wide in the straight.

Eagle Farm R2 #3 Racecourse Road $5.00 at PlayUp – This aptly named galloper is resuming here for the Chris Munce stable. I think this horse has his fair share of talent, three runs first up previously have been very good, and two trials in the lead up to this run have been sharp, with a win in the latest. Very effective over this sprint trip, and was not far away in harder races at the end of last prep. This is a very competitive race, but this horse probably deserves to be a touch shorter in the market.
