Best Bets 15th January 2020

Another great mid week program of racing is upon us, with Warwick Farm hosting its second meeting of the year so far, while Melbourne will hold two meetings in the form of Caulfield for the metropolitan horses, and Yarra Valley for the country ones. All the meetings today have big, competitive fields, which always leads to competitive betting! PlayUp form analyst Lewis Willoughby has identified five wagers you should be having this Wednesday afternoon. His best bet comes up early in the card at Caulfield, take a look at the preview below:

Caulfield:R1 #6 Commando Miss (BEST) $2.60 at PlayUp – First up last start this filly knuckled over out of the gates and ended up settling last, which is not its usual racing style. Really like the way she finished off the race, clocking some good late sectionals through the line over 1200m. The step to 1400m second up is perfect, and form behind Swing And Boom reads very well, as I think that horse has some talent. From barrier 1 she settles handy to the speed without any effort, and will hopefully prove too good for these.

Caulfield R2 #2 Shush $2.00 at PlayUp – Was really taken with the maiden win of this horse last start, put pay to them very quickly and easily over 1200m at Geelong. It clocked a quick last 600m, and was most impressive in the way it extended through the line late, even once the race was over. Gives the impression that 1400m is ideal, the 3kg claim brings it to a lower weight than previous start, and from barrier 4 should be getting a suck run in the box seat or the one-one. Current quote is short enough, but still a bet for mine.

Caulfield R7 #15 Maozi $5.50 at PlayUp – Complete forgive run at The Valley first up last start, got tucked away on the rails and found no room at a critical stage of the bend, went to the line basically untested. Drops 6kg from that effort down to a very low 54kg, and has never lost second up from two attempts. Sticking to the 1200m is the correct decision, and will get back as per usual racing pattern. Hopefully the speed goes on and this filly should be flying late with no weight. Could even go each-way at the current price, must have something on!

Warwick Farm:R5 #2 Jack’s Bar
$5.00 at PlayUp – Just thought the price was a touch of overs about this horse. First up at Canterbury it was caught midfield without cover at any stage, midfield on turning and nothing really ran on, the leader/winner just came back to them late. So forgiving that run a touch, comes here second up with a good record (4:1-2), and will be fitter for a recent trial where it closed off very well. Worth noting also that its record at this track/distance is one start for one win. The favourite is too short for mine, have a small play at this horse instead.

Yarra ValleyR2 #7 Party Maid $2.80 at PlayUp – This Stokes filly looks exceptionally placed in a weak race. First up at Mornington she found the line well over the 1000m, so coming to the 1200m second up looks ideal. Obviously the time off after a run as a 2YO did her well, allowed her to mature and improve. Was purchased at the Inglis Easter Yearling Sales for $250k, and is a half sister to a Golden Slipper place-getter, so you would be hoping it wins here and  progresses to bigger things.
