Top 5 Tips This NBA Season

THE 2021-22 NBA Season is ready to tip off, so here are some tips to help your Draftstars game.

1. Watch out for overlay

Overlay is where the number of entries in a contest is less than the guaranteed prize amount, for example, in a $30,000 contest with a $15 entry fee, overlay occurs if there is under 2000 entries. Overlay is great for all players because it means that there is no house edge, and the expected return of each lineup that you play is over 1. Make sure you are on the lobby when contests are about to lock, and check out the less popular contests such as the micro, fiver or 6-Man contests for overlay opportunity.

2. Check team news

This is undoubtedly the most important piece of advice when you are selecting your Draftstars lineups. There are plenty of websites out there which show NBZ team news. Check out sites such as rotowire, rotogrinders, fantasy labs, or for more up to date news, make sure you are following them on Twitter. Draftstars shows expected and confirmed starters for each team on the player selection page, this information is taken from rotowire.

3. Understand team news

Once there is a confirmed change to a team, it is important to understand how this will affect scoring. Is it just a case of selecting the replacement? Or are you better off selecting other players from the team? Well, it depends. For example, if Joel Embiid is out for the Sixers, it will likely be the correct move to select his backup, Andre Drummond. Whereas if Kevin Durant if out for the Nets, it may be a better move to select a teammate like James Harden instead of Durant’s direct replacement. Either way, a late team change will create some value, it is just a matter of finding it. There is no better to understand what team news means then to tune into the Draftstars NBA preview show each Thursday hosted by NBA fantasy guru Josh Lloyd. Check out Draftstars social media for details on how to tune in.

4. Utilise Player Swap

Late Outs are the worst. By late outs, we mean team changes which come in for Pacific Coast games after the Eastern Coast games have already started. Thankfully, Draftstars has Player Swap which helps avoid the dreaded donut which you would have copped for a load managing player. Make sure that you read up on the rules of Player Swap here  and that you download the Draftstars app and subscribe to push notifications so that you are notified of when you have a non-playing in your lineups.

5. Trust the Process

The NBA season is a grind. Each team plays 82 games over a six month period, so naturally there are going to be some highs and lows throughout the season. Whether it be a player with a bad shooting night, or someone who gets into foul trouble early, form reversals can happen quickly, and finding contrarian high-value, low-owned plays is a great way to get to the top of the leaderboard.
