The English Premier League is the most popular overseas sport for Aussie punters and at PlayUp the markets are endless. Can’t commit to waking up early to watch the matches? That doesn’t mean you can’t bet on them. Our beginners guide shows you just some of the ways you can bet on the EPL this season.
Win/Draw
Think you know the outcome of the game? Like any sport, you can bet on an outright winner. However, unlike many American sports (NFL, NBA, NHL and MLB) draws are common in the EPL so you can also bet on that too.
Lines
Line betting in soccer offers a double chance in case the match is a draw. The bookmaker handicaps the match by 0.5 goals, so that whichever team you select has a virtual head start or handicap.
- If you were to go for Sheffield Utd, and they either won or the game was a draw, your bet would come in.
- If you were to go for Bournemouth, and they either won or the game was a draw, your bet would come in.
So, the tactic when betting would be:
If you think an underdog team has a chance to upset the favourite but you’re not entirely confident, then sometimes the line is a safer then backing them to win.
And vice versa.
Over/Under
With over/under bets, the bookmaker will decide a combined final score and you decide whether that number will be over or under that nominated score.
Note: it’s displayed as .5 so the final result is a whole number.
- If you bet over, the combined final score would have to be 3 or more
- If you bet under, the combined final score would have to be 2 or less
Note: there are more over/under betting options in the ‘More Markets’ section.
More ways to bet on the EPL
These markets can be found here and they’re pretty self-explanatory.
Correct Score
It’s as simple as sounds. You predict the final score of the game and if you’re right, you win the bet. PlayUp also offers correct score combinations in the ‘more markets’ section.
This option gives you the chance to predict the correct score, but you have three possible correct score outcomes.
Both teams to score
All this bet requires is a simple ‘yes’ or ‘no’ answer. No matter what the final result of the match is, as long as both teams have scored one or more goals, you win the bet.
Half time/full time
For this bet, you predict which team will be winning before and after half time.
For example, in the market below the first bet ($2.70) would be Sheffield Utd to win the first AND second half.
The second bet ($4.33) would be a draw in the first half and then Sheffield Utd to win the second half etc.
Draw No Bet
With this bet, you choose which side will win the game. If the game ends in a draw, your bet will be refunded. The odds are lower compared to an outright win bet because you get money back for a draw result, so less chance of
Double Chance
This bet allows you to pick two outcomes of the match. For example, the three double chance outcomes in this match include:
Sheffield Utd to win or a draw result
Sheffield Utd or Bournemouth to win
Bournemouth to win or a draw result
Again, the odds are lower because the risk is significantly lower.
Number of Goals
Again, this does what it says on the tin! It really is as simple as it sounds.
Winning Margin
Why
Multi Bets
A multi, or an accumulator, is a bet where you combine a number of single bets into one big bet. For example, you can combine a win bet with a total goals over/under bet. Alternatively you could combine your soccer bet with a different sport or even horse racing to get increased odds.
