With a ticket into the 2020 Doncaster Mile up for grabs, it’s easy to understand why Saturday’s Group 2 Villiers Stakes is the highlight of tomorrow gallops action around Australia. Run and won over the mile at Randwick under handicap conditions, the punters are, at this stage, siding with Quackerjack, the Mark Newnham trained son of Not A Single Doubt heads the market at $3.10 in a wide open affair.
Our young gun Tipster Lewis Willoughby has kept his cue in the rack in the Villiers, however he’s found a couple later in the day at Randwick. Below are his best from around the country tomorrow
#6 Strome ($3.40 PlayUp): On the quick back up after a very promising run last Saturday at Rosehill, charged home late over 1400m that day. The step up to the mile here is positive, and draws well. Was a good winner two starts back, she is ready to re enter the winner’s stall.
#17 Petronius ($5.00 PlayUp): Ran very well last start when first up over the 1100m. Was really charging through the line late behind Embracer, who is a very nice type, and they ran 33.54s for the L600m (quick!). Stepping up to the 1400m here on a bigger track is a positive, carrying hardly any weight in 53kg, will jump quick and be on speed.
RACE 2 (BEST BET)
#3 Bam’s On Fire ($2.25 PlayUp): Last start first up wanted to lay in badly at vital stages of the straight, ended up diving and missing in a tight finish. Comes here second up now with a good record at this distance/stage of prep. Drawn well and gets a 3kg weight drop from last start. Will be flashing home!
#1 Alligator Blood ($1.65 PlayUp): Got nutted on the post in the Caulfield Guineas at the end of last prep, hopefully if you backed it that day you are finally up off the floor. Returns here off a nice trial win, this horse should serve as an anchor leg in any multi bets. Quinella/Exacta with The Odyssey who jumps from barrier 1 and looks talented + has race fitness.
#9 Boomtown Lass ($3.30 PlayUp): Comes here second up after a nice win last start over the 1100m. Should be able to get a suck run from barrier one, and with a touch of luck getting out in the straight, it should be winning. Runs well at the distance, drops weight from last start, the list goes on.
