Weekend Best Bets

Melbourne and Sydney will compete for every punter’s attention this Saturday with both racing clubs hosting huge meetings filled with stars and Group 1 racing.

Flemington will host the Turnbull Stakes, the Turnbull is the highlight of a stacked card filled to the brim with stars. Three Group 2’s and a Group 3 will surround the $300,000 race.

Royal Randwick will host three Group 1’s headlined by the Epsom Handicap.

Race 4: Fidelia was unlucky last start when held up at key stage but flew home breaking the 11-second mark in the final 200m. Has great from here. Spanish Whisper beat Fidelia here when giving 3kg and won here last start, Princess Jenni came 7th in that and won G2 last weekend. Tremendous value ($8 ClassicBet). Savatiano is resuming here, trialled ok with Alizee and has the class. Must keep in thoughts.

Race 6: The Gilgai Stakes is rated as a G2 but don’t be fooled, it has all the makings of a G1. Headlined by the return of champion Santa Ana Lane who fires fresh, gave up 8kg to Sunlight when first up last campaign and nearly pipped her. Absolute champion is “Santa” and will be the one to beat. Sunlight wasn’t at her best last start, has won a G1 here and should be ready to go here. Consistency has been an issue this prep though. No doubting the value for quinella/exacta/ trifecta lies with Zoutori ($6 ClassicBet), good win fresh last start and won 2nd up last prep after first-up win.

Race 7: Mystic Journey will look to right the wrongs from last start, a potential star who needs this win to solidify its status. Had a month between runs leading into that and it maybe cost her, first go at 2000m but deserves trust. Mr Quickie is 100% at the trip and 100% second up, ran the fastest final 200m of the day on 14/9 (10.8 sec). Must Include. Hartnell provides reliable each-way value, always fights hard and gives an honest account of himself. Great price ($9.50 ClassicBet).

Race 8: Surprise Baby will start short favourite all things being equal, was excellent upon resumption and is the class horse in the race. King of Leogrance was unlucky last time out, held up and couldn’t get out in time. Keep in thoughts at this price ($5.50 ClassicBet).

Race 9: Miami Bound has class. Comfortably beat Frazil in Bendigo who was then 3.3L off Celestial Falls in Oaks trial. Subpoenaed provides good value ($4.60 ClassicBet), has shown plenty of potential and is ready to deliver.

Race 5: The return of Osborne Bulls is the stand-out in this field, as five second placings in G1’s last prep has put some pressure on the swooper. Has beaten the best-of-the-best this country has to offer, deserves trusting here. Classique Legend split Pierata and Redzel showing all of his class, will measure up just fine here. Brutal resumes here and gives punters good value ($6 ClassicBet), took a while to get into his work last campaign in the Autumn, each-way the option.

Race 6: Samadoubt will lead them around on Saturday, missed out last start but two wins before that showed his class in front of the pack. Angel of Truth has the eye of the punters ($4 ClassicBet), will try and battle for the lead and has proven hard to dislodge from the front once he’s set. Should be primed for this. Verry Elleegant failed last start but should be forgiven, raced wide and had zero cover. Her behaviour has been a lot better and is the class horse here.

Race 7: Dreamforce will want the lead here, don’t be fooled by the weight here, the last four winners of this have carried 56 and/or 57kg. Is looking class this prep. Best of Days didn’t have his best day at Caulfield last start, best win to date is at this distance. Keep in thoughts at this price ($19 ClassicBet). Kolding is blessed with the dream Randwick mile combo of Waller and Boss. For that alone, you must keep him at top of thoughts.

Race 8: Stampede led all the way in last win, looked class above. Will face sterner test here but will likely give himself a chance. Hush Writer is a proper stayer, has had six starts beyond 2300m for two wins and three placings. Incredible value ($9 ClassicBet). Brimham Rocks was good last week when swooping on a slow pace, keep in thoughts.

Race 9: Reelem in Ruby is fresh here, trialled really well and will be looking to convert that work here. 1st up form is strong and has real speed. Also resuming is Handle The Truth will look to lead from barrier two, won both his trials last start and will have value ($5.50 ClassicBet). Don’t ignore Beau Ideal here, ran well 2nd up with no luck and will be peaking here. 1200m will be great.
