NRL Round 7: Betting Preview and Tips

An ANZAC Day double header kicks off the NRL Round 7 action.

Sydney Roosters face St George Illawarra Dragons and Melbourne Storm take on New Zealand Warriors in a blockbuster ANZAC Day on Thursday.

We preview each of the games below:

Sydney Roosters vs St George Illawarra Dragons

Thursday, April 25

The Roosters will be out to avenge last year’s ANZAC Day defeat to the Dragons when the two in-form teams collide on Thursday afternoon at the SCG. With a win in their last ANZAC Day meeting and on a four-match losing streak, the Dragons certainly won’t mind being underdogs for this encounter. It’s another huge game for the Roosters after their massive effort in Melbourne last week, and there’s always a risk they will suffer a bit of a let-down, especially with Keary out. The Dragons are solid value for the upset.

Prediction: Dragons win ($2.80 TopBetta)

Melbourne Storm vs New Zealand Warriors

Thursday, April 25

Melbourne will be out to continue their recent dominance over the Warriors and bounce back from their first defeat of the season when they take to the field on ANZAC Day. The Warriors might be running into Melbourne at the worst time. Emotions will be high on ANZAC Day, plus the Storm will be determined to bounce back from last week. Melbourne rarely play two bad games in a row – expect a dominant win for the home side.

Prediction: Storm by 13+ ($1.72 TopBetta)

Canterbury Bulldogs vs North Queensland Cowboys

Friday, April 26

The Cowboys have a great chance to notch up consecutive victories on Friday night when they take on the bottom-placed Bulldogs. Canterbury’s defence improved significantly for that match, but it’s been good one week and awful the next so far this season. The Cowboys have much more points in them and should be able to carve out another win on Friday.

Prediction: Cowboys win ($1.90 TopBetta)

Penrith Panthers vs South Sydney Rabbitohs

Friday, April 26

South Sydney look to add more misery to Penrith’s poor start to the season when the two teams clash on Friday night. Souths have won two of their last three meetings, and you’ve got to favour them again. Penrith should be better at home and can’t get much worse, while Souths have been going through the motions, which is dangerous for when you come up against a team with something to prove. However, that being said, I think Souths will edge this one.

Prediction: Rabbitohs win ($1.59 TopBetta)

Wests Tigers vs Gold Coast Titans

Saturday, April 27

The Titans are high flying at the moment after celebrating back-to-back wins with a resounding 38-14 belting over the hapless Knights. Meanwhile, the Tigers were caught up in a blitzkrieg of their own as they were left shell-shocked after a 51-6 flogging at the hands of Parramatta. This match is also being played on neutral ground (at Tamworth) which takes the home ground advantage away from both sides. I am expecting the Tigers to bounce back with a vengeance here and in a close finish, take the points back to Sydney.

Prediction: Tigers -2.5 ($1.90 TopBetta)

Brisbane Broncos vs Cronulla Sharks

Saturday, April 27

The Broncos found another way of losing last week when going down 26-22 to Canberra Raiders. They are now languishing near the bottom of the table with just one win from their first six games which is now their worst start to a season in 20 years. The Sharks scraped their way into the top eight with victory last week and will be out to win here and remain in finals contention. The Broncos have lost their last two home games and with hopes of a top-four spot slowly dwindling, will be out to turn things around on Saturday night. With their strongest side taking the field in a fortnight, I believe they can put in the effort here and get the job done and their season back on track.

Prediction: Broncos -3.5 ($1.80 TopBetta)

Manly Sea Eagles vs Canberra Raiders

Sunday, April 28

Three of the last four games between Manly and Canberra have been decided by two points or less, and with the way both teams are travelling, we might be in for another thrilling finish when these two top eight sides square off. I think Canberra have more to call upon in attack and they’ve improved their defence tenfold this season – they should be able to edge this one out.

Prediction: Raiders win ($1.67 TopBetta)

Newcastle Knights vs Parramatta Eels

Sunday, April 28

Newcastle are under some pressure now with a team most people believe were top-eight material at the start of the season. They need to produce something to end the rut they are currently in. They have lost their last three in front of their home crowd who will also be expecting a big improvement here after leaking 38 points last week. The Eels will be on a high after that demolition of the Tigers and just make life more miserable for the Knights. I am expecting a big improvement from the Newcastle defence but I doubt it will be enough to stop this high-flying Parramatta side who look like the real-deal this year.

Prediction: Eels -2.5 ($1.90 TopBetta)
