Midweek Best Bets

Wednesday 18/12/19

A massive day of midweek racing this Wednesday that isn’t to be missed. Caulfield has been brought forward for an early start due to the hot weather conditions that are expected, while Doomben hosts Ten races, Ascot in the West hosts Eleven, and there will be Seven competitive races at Randwick on the Kensington inner track. PlayUp form analyst Lewis Willoughby has landed on Five bets that you should be having today.

Caulfield:

R5 #1 Blossom On Snow ($5.00 at PlayUp) – Was really taken with the debut win of this Sebring filly at Wangaratta. Ran a very quick last 600m (34.88s) for a horse who was winning by 4L. From barrier 1 it will have the rail to follow and should be able to settle up on speed very easily, it can win again. Main danger would be Florent.

R7 #7 Mr Stylish ($2.05 at PlayUp)Play Of The Day Broke his maiden status last start with a 7L demolition job over the mile at Pakenham. Had been building towards that performance, steps up to 1800m which is a positive and seems very well placed by Stokes in this average BM64. Just needs that touch of luck from barrier 10.

Randwick Kensington:

R5 #7 Voila ($4.20 at PlayUp) – The first up run from this mare was massive, got back and hit the line very hard over the 1100m. Finds a similar distance but is fitter now and drawn to settle a touch closer. Has won 2nd up previously too.

R7 #8 Reformist ($4.00 at PlayUp) – Thought the early price offered about this horse was ridiculous (opened $11 and has since come in). Returns from a spell after finishing last in a listed race, but was 3-4 wide without cover that day. Debut win over 1300m was strong, and then was G3 placed. No knock on the favourite Rocha Clock, who will be very competitive with the light weight, but at the price Reformist should be a bet.

Doomben:

R5 #2 Secret Spirit ($4.00 at PlayUp) – This Spirit Of Boom gelding did enough first up at the Gold Coast to score comfortably over the 1100m. A very consistent horse with a great second up record (3:2-0), and three wins from seven attempts at the distance. Will lead and take some running down. Keep a watch on Qiji Pheonix, who is first up here after recently beating Secret Spirit by 4L in a trial.
