Midweek Best Bets

Mid-week racing is heading to Sandown this week after a successful meeting at the track last weekend, runners will take the lakeside route this time around as opposed to Saturday’s Hillside course.

After a pretty successful weekend, the quality of racing drops here, but that does mean that there will be some value to be found and hopefully we have all made enough of a bank over the weeks gone by to have a dip here.

Race 1: Black Sage was good at Sale on debut, was behind Feign who franked the form by running quite well in a listed race after. Maps well for this and will be hard to beat ($2.50 Playup). Horowitz will benefit from having Craig Williams on board who is in incredible form; same sire as Written By. Trialled really well. Atomic Rock is from the same sire as Pierata, trialled well on 11/11 and will look to swoop late. Always a hard ask late and query over staying ability always there at this stage but seems ready.

Race 2: La Lucciola showed potential in her first prep running well twice at Flemington. Mail is she has been training well, has had surgery since last prep but seems ready for this. Lunasnit will be thrilled to be back on dry track here, good run first-up and will be better for that run. Mnemba will have her first dry track run here, she will be peaking here and will provide excellent value for an each-way bet ($14.00 Playup).

Race 3: Marcada won at Cranbourne from the box seat two starts back, map says he will find a similar spot here. If he finds that form he will be hard to beat. Get on at the price ($7.00 Playup). Truffle House ran a good G3 race at Mooney Valley, has had a three-week break between runs but has won a jump-out in that time. The Pugilist was impressive in his maiden, won quite well and was fresh there. Placed at Flemington last prep and has the class to win this.

Race 4: Heart of Grace looked very uncomfortable last run at Mooney Valley and therefore earns my forgiveness, she flew home late hitting the line well when she finally got settled. Finished behind Oceanex who won the G2 Matriarch after that. Miss Damita is red hot at the moment, cruised home in Mortlake. Will be peaking and ready to win again. Get on ($3.30 Playup). Head Noises comes out of the same race as Heart of Grace, had a better run in that race but still fought well and is better weighted then Heart of Grace as well.

Race 5: Sukoot had everything done before being pipped at Kyneton, query over the trip but has heaps of upside. Prefer just to watch at this price and distance. The Mallee Mob will come here much fitter after a run over 2390m in his last effort. This grade may be too much but worth an each-way look ($10.00 Playup). Pour Vous rapidly improved second-up over 2400m, will be much better for the run and following last prep form this race is perfect for him. Vamanoz always gives his heart, has won one of these before and is trustworthy.

Race 6: Call Me Shamus will be very hard to beat here, Won his maiden well 2nd up and will only be better here. Comes in at a light weight after claim. Get on! ($5.00 Playup). Atone ran into trouble at Mornington and found no luck, has been running well and can’t be far away from another win. Miss Belisa ran well after leading against Group 1 rated horses last time, hasn’t run well over the mile and that provides enough doubt to leave out here.

Race 7: Neighbourhood will be looking for a day suited for back-markers, if they are running on she will be very hard to beat. Ran second to Fidelia at Flemington in her second start and Fidelia has franked that form with some great runs since. 1-1 first up, back her in ($3.00 Playup). Sky Call has race fitness on her side and has been solid in her first two runs back. Provides the biggest danger.

Race 8: Write Your Name won in this class first-up showing plenty of heart, maps great for this and will be coming home with a swooping run late. Dry track suits him to a tee. Follow here ($2.50 Playup). Battlecamp has been good in jump-outs, does find it hard to win but he does run well first up. Craig Williams on board is a big plus.
