Midweek Best Bets

Mid-week racing heads to country Victoria this week, Ballarat will host the meeting which will be served as a recovery day by a lot of punters after a disappointing September.

Race 1: Draw does Translator a lot of favours here, should be fitter for last two runs but has also failed to impress too much in those runs. Isola Comacina impressed on debut and will only improve, and is wroth considering. Smoke Bomb tried hard against a similar field on debut, worth every cent of value ($5.00 Classicbet). Jayrod Too was bitterly disappointing at Caulfield last start, feel free to ignore this time out.

Race 2: Sandsation finished off terrifically fresh at Geelong, and will arrive here fitter and raring to go. Olly (Damien Oliver) on board a huge plus. Bellarine Beauty is another example of being better for the run, was solid on debut and will benefit from the experience. Has plenty of value at $6.50. Broadwayandfourth will provide some food for thought. Was in the mix last start and if she has taken much away from that start she becomes a genuine chance.

Race 3: Viking Warrior has no excuses here. Perfect barrier, loves it first up and will love the distance. 60kg provides the only question but should be able to cope. Ruuca will provide the best option for the quinella here. Flew home last start and is sharp enough for this. Don’t be fooled by the odds shown for Invincible Lotus ($5.50 Classicbet). These will be too good for him at this stage. Free Thrills gives us the value of the day here ($8.00 Classicbet), won easily in Tatura first up and will be better for that run. Has a good gate and deserves to be in the thoughts.

Race 4: Shakespeare was unimpressive last start but his last win deserves remembering, and is without a doubt the class horse of the race. Super Girl is quite short here considering her form ($4.80 Classicbet), comes from So You Think so you can’t count her out completely. Eurosymbol won quite convincingly last start and will always fight home, makes it worth considering. Ciccolallo is well suited by the barrier, didn’t handle the step up in distance last start but connections will be hoping for an improved performance this time.

Race 5: Fascino is one of three main fancies here, was superb at Caulfield in latest and was terrific start before that on synthetic. Comes down in class from last start and is fitter again, will take some beating. Stay Gold won well last start at Cranbourne and will arrive here fitter, don’t discount. Aree Al was honourable last start at Cranbourne, win before that was over 1200m and now makes the jump up to 1400m. Maybe a bit short though ($3.60 Classicbet).

Race 6: Splendoronthegrass will be popular amongst young punters that’s for sure. Name aside however, the drop in class will be appreciated. Was ok at Flemington but will be fitter for that run and is the one to beat. Rapidora is resuming here, doesn’t mind it fresh and also drops in class here. Don’t discount at these odds ($4.20 Classicbet). Zabelarina came home strong for win upon resumption last start, keep in thoughts but only for a place, perhaps.

Race 7: Marcel From Madrid looks like the one to beat here, coming down in class here will do huge favours, maybe worth going chips in at these odds ($4.00 Classicbet). Sam’s Image is resuming here, was on the pace at Caulfield last time and tough to the line. Faces easier opposition this time and will love the trip. Chicago Cub won comfortably last start and will have pulled up all-the-fitter for that resumption. If he is at his best he can challenge here. Ruban Bleu was honest but poor at Flemington at this level last start, a win before that provides reason for hope, barrier is also a plus.

Race 8: Zachaz is making his Australian debut here, 1-from-1 first up and will be the one to watch. Maybe hold off for now and see what he has to offer. Pressure is resuming here and deserves trust, always consistent and placed at Sandown-Lakeside when resuming last campaign. Maybe a bit short though ($4.20 Classicbet). Rock The Drum worked home well last start and was great at SundownHillside start before that. Can’t be forgotten about here.
