Midweek racing heads to Flemington this week with the spring carnival starting to heat up. The Kennedy Oaks trail is the highlight of the meeting with plenty of two-year-olds looking to push their case.
Usually not one to play host to a Wednesday meeting, Flemington will provide connections of the respective horses a chance to have a day out at Melbourne’s premium racecourse they otherwise may not get.
We’ve also previewed the best Canterbury has to offer on Wednesday as well.
Race 4: Varda looks like the best hope here, wasn’t great fresh but does enjoy this distance and is well worth keeping in your thoughts at this price ($4.60 Topbetta). Sunlight’s sister Sisstar led all the way and won easily last start, and if the bloodlines are anything to go by, you have to like her chances. Dane Clipper makes her grass debut and drops back 1100m, where she also led and cantered home. Will be a great battle at the front of the pack.
Race 5: Hard to go past Ruban Bleu in this one, does present some worries if the track is good and first up form at this trip isn’t good reading. Has class though. Got the Moves has good fresh form over this trip and this track and distance in particular. Is providing a great each-way option ($10.00 Topbetta). Rich Itch can be forgiven for his Bobbie Lewis run after carrying 11.5kg over his rating. Doesn’t mind the straight!
Race 6: Celestial Falls is the half-sister to Greysful Glamour who used a win here as a prelude to a second place in the Oaks. Big jump from 1300m last start but worth a watch. Gamay cruised second up and left others in the dust, queries on the 1800m here but if she can cover the trip she has the class. Worth your money at the price ($3.50 Topbetta). Frazil was way off last start but will be better for the run and you can trust her form.
Race 7: Olympic Oath has been begging for this trip, very excited to see how he goes, will be hard to beat. Get on him ($4.00 Topbetta). Serious Liaison keeps pushing to the line to score 2nd up, must be counted. Brilliant Venture has staying ability in spades, good form out of miss to Miami Bound two starts back – form has held up!
Race 8: Divanation is resuming and has good form fresh, has given us plenty of reason to trust and should be worth the punt ($4.00 Topbetta). Secret Vega flew home 2nd up and has the ability to maintain form. If jump-outs are anything to go by Wetakemanhattan has to be right in the picture, likes running fresh previously over 1300m and the mile. Will provide value.
Race 5: Zalatte ran fresh last start with no trials, will be much better for the run and will benefit from a 3kg claim. 1900m proved to be too far first up for Achondrite who will love the drop in distance provided here, well worth it’s betting odds ($7.00 Topbetta).
Race 6: Safado is unbeaten fresh and has trialled pretty well twice leading into this. Enjoys this track and trip. Sheriff provides all the value here ($14.00 Topbetta). Absolutely forgive his first up run. Had too much to do along the way, loves second up, loves it here. Vedder will be fitter for the run last start and has good 2nd up form, keep in thoughts.
Race 7: Kylease is the bet of the day ($2.60 Topbetta). Will go forward and has the barrier to do so without much hassle. Was good greasy and is ready to fly. If you’re looking for something to go with the favourite, Black Magnum could be your runner, quinellaed 8/11 starts.
Race 8: Luna Mia dominated at home track and now makes metropolitan debut. Good chance for her to step up again here. Bare Naked Lady provides the value of the race ($8.50 Topbetta) and her 2nd up record is positive. Barrier a worry. Ballistica has been excellent since returning and can challenge here on current form.
