The midweek metro action takes us to Canterbury Park and Cranbourne for some competitive Wednesday action.
We’ve picked out horses to follow in both Sydney and Melbourne with our midweek best bets.
Race 3 at Canterbury Park is for the new season three-year-olds and a contender at the each-way odds is YOU RANG ($5.50 TopBetta). The Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained galloper has had just the one start for a runner-up performance at Kembla Grange and in that race the daughter of Sebring cleared out with Escaped in what was a bit of a two-horse war. She missed out on the bob, while there was a big margin back to 3rd. A firmer in early betting, You Rang will settle on the speed and should improve after her recent outing.
The promising ROOSEVELT ($2.60 TopBetta) kicks off his spring campaign in this race and the Godolphin galloper should go close. The son of Exceed And Excel showed promise with two early career wins but wasn’t quite up to them at Listed level at his last preparation before just missing out at Warwick Farm in a BenchMark 78 before the break. Since that effort in March he has since been gelded and looked sharp when running a nice 3rd behind the subsequent winner, Sylvia’s Mother, in a recent trial. From barrier 2 he will get a nice cart into the race and with Hugh Bowman on board he can go close.
Race 4 at Cranbourne shapes as an interesting one and it is CASINO FOURTEEN ($3.80 TopBetta) that should be the improver at his second run back from a spell. The Lloyd Kennewell galloper stepped out on July 22 at Ballarat and tired in the latter stages after attempting to lead all the way off what was a solid tempo. He was a winner at his last preparation and runner-up behind the top liner Merchant Navy earlier in his career in what are his only two career second up runs. The slight step up in distance should also suit.
