Australia v Pakistan: Cricket World Cup Betting Preview and Tips

Australia and Pakistan clash in their latest game of the ICC World Cup 2019 when they meet at Taunton on Wednesday.

The Aussies suffered defeat to India last time having won their first two matches against Afghanistan and West Indies, while Pakistan start with a heavy loss against West Indies before defeating hosts England.

Pakistan’s third game was an abandoned match against Sri Lanka and they will now be hoping the rains stay away.

Match Preview

Defending champions Australia has won eight consecutive World Cup matches, before the loss to India halted their run. They still remain far from having a foot in the semis and the loss only accentuated their concerns of qualifying for the last four.

David Warner’s slow-paced batting has pegged the side back, although Steve Smith’s form is a real boost. The lack of strike rotation in the middle overs will be a well-discussed topic in the Australian camp. Thankfully, their bowling looks far more settled, although Nathan Coulter-Nile is yet to justify his place as a bowler.

Pakistan have been inconsistent and unpredictable. The win against England was expected to be a morale booster, but the washout against Sri Lanka has potentially deprived them of a win.

Mohammad Amir and Wahab Riaz remain the architects of Pakistan’s revival, while the top-order batting remains a big concern. If the likes of Imam-ul-Haq and Fakhar Zaman do not start contributing, Pakistan will have to keep hoping for miraculous escapes.

  • Australia have won their last eight matches against Pakistan.
  • Four out of Australia’s last five losses in the World Cup have been to India and Pakistan (twice each).
  • In 19 of their last 20 World Cup matches that they fielded first, Australia have won.
  • Pakistan have lost three of their last four World Cup matches against Australia.
  • Pakistan haven’t defeated Australia at a neutral venue (not counting UAE) since the 2011 World Cup.

Australia have won 14 of their last 15 matches against Pakistan. The last time the Asian side defeated them was in January 2017, and Pakistan have now lost their last eight matches against Australia.

Australia’s loss to India looks a blip, and they should get back to shape against Pakistan. As long as the current form holds good, Australia should fancy their chances of continuing their recent strangle hold over Pakistan.
